On 04/02/14 I was contacted by an individual who said she was Sofia Shannel (strong filipino accent) working for a company in Sacramento, California called Advance Services. She said she got my number from RCI, a time share company of which I am a member. Her reason for calling is that she has a proposal which would allow me to rent out my unused bonus timeshare weeks. She said a company called Meinhardt Engineering Group is holding a convention in Cancun, Mexico and needs rooms either at Hyatt or Marriott hotels there, between May 21-28. Ms. Shannel said that my timeshare bonus weeks would be exchanged for these hotel  rooms and the company would pay me $3600 for each week plus $750 for the timeshare maintenance fee. The money, $4350 for each week, would be sent via fedex. If I was interested she would hook me up with an exchange company called Premier International Exchange who would be able to make the exchange for a small fee of $199 (taken from my credit card). I told her before I accepted any offer from an unsolicited call I would have to first check and see if what she is saying is credible. I asked for the address of her company as well as phone numbers etc. After hanging up I proceeded to check out all she had told me. I first checked out Advance Services via internet and made a phone call to them. They are a legitimate company in Sacramento however they are involve in business staffing not with anything to do with timeshare rentals. They also have no employee named Sofia Shannel. I checked out the location of the number Ms. Shannel (probably not her real name) called me from (646-558-6707). That number turns out to be located somewhere in NY. The other number Ms Shannel gave me to call her back (760-269-405). That number is located somewhere in Victorville, CA. I also contacted RCI and was told that they do not give out membership information to any third party. Lastly, I checked ripoffreport.com to see if anyone had reported a scam similar to this. To no surprise, someone did almost identical except for the name of the scammer who called. When I called back Ms. Shannel, to inform her that I suspect she is working for a scam company she became irrate and hung up on me. Please beware of these scammers. They are using the names of legitimate companies which are in no way associated to their scams. Do your due deligence and do not part with your money so easily over the phone no matter how good the deal sounds.
