#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Just some advice....

I used to work in the technical support call center for Verizon Wireless..can't tell you how many calls we received about this on a daily basis...
These charges usually come from things like 'joke of the day', 'text your question', '10 free ring tones!' , 'vote for your favorite American Idol contestant!' and other services that advise you to simply text something to a text code ( Simply text IDOL to 555555 to enter to win your chance at attending the live finale!)..what they don't tell you, except in very small print that flashes at the bottom of the screen, is that when you text you are actually subscribing to a service that can now charge $9.99 and sometimes up to $19.99 monthly for their service.
It is a common issue..here's what you do:
Call Verizon and explain the issue..there is actually a program where tech support can view all 3rd party subscribers. They can submit a request to have the money refunded and the service terminated.
It may take 7-10 business days for it to terminate and may take a little longer for your bill to reflect the refund.
In the meant time, respond to any messages you get form the service with : STOP CANCEL..continue to do this and nothing else. Check back with Verizon after a few days and have them check the 3rd party subscriptions on your account to ensure everything went through ok.
I know it is frustrating and I hope this helps.
