 Received a unsuspected USPS package, addressed to myself from SCWVA. Having not expected a package, I researched the sender to discover that this was sent from a charity. Red Flag #1) Legit charities don't send out unsolicited "gifts". About a month later, after leaving g the package unopened on a table, I received a call telling me that I owed money to this charity. I attempted to arrange for the package to be sent back but they declined. Red Flag #2) Legit Charities don't harass you about payment. Red Flag #3) Legit Charities ask you to donate what you can, not to select from $49.95-$300. Finally, I decided to do some more research after receiving more phone calls demanding payment. Here is a copy of their 2012 audit. Check out the ratio of expenses to revenue. Salaries took up 52% of the total revenue in 2013. Other expenses took 50% of revenue. A net loss for the year 2013 of nearly 20,000. The balance made up out of current assets, which left assets at the end of the year to be 18,000. There's some indication that they did provide a few amenities to people in the veteran's hospital, however compared to what they take in, it doesn't seem like much. Anyway they went from net assets of 38,000 in 2012 to 18,000 in 2013. The goods and services they provide are minimal. Question is, who got the bulk of that $300,000 salary? And for what?
