My phone service went out on July 21. I put in a repair call. I had to take the day off work and wait. I finally called late in the afternoon, after nobody had arrived or called, and asked when someone would be out. I was told the next day before 10 am. In the meantime, I had no phone service, no television, no internet access, and my security system was inoperative.

I'm not so spoiled that I can't do without internet or tv for awhile but as a single woman living alone who has had the nasty experience of being burglarized, I DO want my security system to work. I complained but got a brushoff. I asked for a supervisor and got a woman named "Alberta."

I did not curse or yell at Alberta but let her know I was VERY dissatisfied. I also said I wanted a discount on my bill for my inconvenience. She said I'd get a credit for losing a day of service based on my total monthly bill, which would amount to a LOUSY FIFTY CENTS.
Hardly enough for my inconvenience and I said so.

She then proceeded to scold me about my "behavior" which was inappropriate, unprofessional, and which she plain had no right to do. I told her I could definitely behave badly if that was what she really wanted, and complaining was not behaving badly. She told me repeatedly "go ahead and behave badly." I believe she was deliberately trying to anger me enough to start yelling or cursing so she'd have an excuse to just hang up on me. I said I didn't appreciate talking to her and asked for her supervisor. She said "My supervisor is not available. I"m in charge now." I asked who her supervisor was. She repeated to every question thereafter "I'm in charge" and her tone got more and more smug.

My phone service was not repaired until the next day and *NOT* BEFORE TEN AM, as they had assured me. No one arrived till noon. I also did not get a note left or nything else by the tech, just a phone recording saying my phone was repaired. I have no idea what the problem was and would like to know why it went out in the first place.

I got lousy customer service. I will get only a crummy fifty cents for my inconvenience. I was lied to about when my phone would be repaired. I never got the courtesy of an explanation as to why my phone line didn't work. It's a sure bet I won't get my crappy 50 cent credit either.

Believe me, the only reason I'm keeping their service is because I must have it for my security system. As soon as a system is available that does not require a land phone line for my security system and television service I will dump Sprint. When I got to high-speed dialup, be assured that sprint will NOT be considered. Obviously they care absolutely nothing whatsoever for their customers, but maybe they'll miss the money.

It's easy to rip people off when they hold a monopoly, isn't it?

I filed an email complaint and got this in response:

Dear (me):

Thank you for contacting Sprint via the internet.

We do apologize for the past customer service experience you have encountered. It is Sprint's commitment to continue to improve our level of customer service with all of our customers.

Again, we apologize.

It is very difficult for us to keep track of every repair and what causes the repair problem. However, the repair department should be able to at least tell you what the technician found out. It doesn't as a normal rule take more than 24 hours to have a repair taken care of, however, sometimes it does take longer due to the fact that more people are out of service, or it could be weather related or it could be a widespread outage.
But we do understand how very frustrating it can be when you try to have something resolved and seem to get nowhere. Please accept our apologies once again and if we may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. We trust you will allow Sprint the opportunity to meet your needs in the future.

Thanks,
Bonnie T - URX

How nice that it's too hard for them to keep track of their customers! She did email me back and say that it was a cut cable, which I don't think is true. There was a construction crew working nearby, and I initially suspected a cut line, but when I confronted the workmen, they immediately stopped work - the whole crew! - and went to help me find the ground block. Despite the fact that this was NOT their fault, they did their best to help me. As it turns out, they were working nowhere near the phone lines or ground blocks, so they could not have caused this mishap.

So sad that the people who weren't responsible dropped what they were doing to help me, but Sprint would not. Says a lot, doesn't it?
