I have been getting very nasty calls from a company called State Investigation Department stating I owe money and to pay by credit card.  They have no information to give me when I ask when wht company they have no answers and I never received anything in the mail concerning this matter.  They tell me I am going to be arrested they are going to call my job and my references.  I was so scared I was going to pay until a friend told me it's a scam.  The calls stopped for about a week and now they are starting back.  And they call all day back to back.  I need some help I don't know what to do.

New Haven,CT

Actually, after having dealt with this thing before, "State Investigation Department" is really an unscrupulous COLLECTION AGENCY. The do just about every illegal and dirty trick in the book ( threatening arrest, loss of job, etc.) to get you to pay them. What they do is , usually buy "stale" out of date debt for a few pennies on the dollar, and attempt to scare people who aren't aware the debt is out of statute into paying them the money.  For what they pay for the old debt, all they have to do is get 3 or 4 people to send in the money they ask for, and they're maikng pretty good coin scamming people.   Just a heads up....don't pay them ANYTHING, don't give them ANY INFO, and above all do NOT " VERIFY" any information they ask you, when you verify anythin g for them, you are basically " filling in the info they don't already have" in their records for them.

this scam has been going on for years, the people calling you are scammers that are just trying to get your card number so thay can run the balnce up using it ileagally.

never ever give your credit card number to someone who calls you. Always initiate the call so you really know who your talking to.

if they call back just strip back the phone wires and plug them into the ac outlet then look for the guy with the burned ear.
