While on kijiji.com I saw an adorable dachshund.  I called the listed number and spoke with a seemingly pleasant lady about the dog and the reasons for which it was being sold as an adult and at a particular price.

This person was representing a friend who supposably lived in an area difficult to find.  Once there the house was not that large but more and more animals appeared.  There were puppies just born and older puppies.  There were dogs out back and several producing cats in the house.  There were cat cages in the garage.

The dog was friendly and not afraid of me and it was love at first sight.  But before I could leave with the dog the lady representing the actual owner made me sign a paper that said once I left the premises the owner was no longer reponsible.  The seller said it was because the owner didn't want to be responsible for genetics since the owner was not the breeder.

I took the dog home and when our long ride ended he would not do his urinating in the grass.  He was afraid of the grass.  Once in the house he went on the carpet and continued to refuse to do his business outside.  The dog was fine with me but was very aggressive toward anyone who came in the house.

I called the seller within a short time after having the dog and stated I could not trust the dog and requested that the owner contact me.  The owner has never contacted me and the seller has called with threatening and derogatory statements because I stopped payment on the second portion of the dog's cost.

When I asked the seller why the owner would not take the dog back the seller stated that the owner was afraid of crazy people like me getting the dog and ruining it.  This was not at all why the seller asked me to sign the release before I bought the dog.

In addition when I asked the seller why the dog was flea infested the seller blamed me stating she had applied Frontline.  This dog had sores all over the entire body under the mats of hair which took no less than 8 hours in two sessions to remove.

I have lost valuable items in my home due to the dog's shredding my belongings while I am gone.  I cannot put him in a room or in a crate because he barks incessantly.

I cannot help but wonder why any breeder who loves their breed would not want to take back a dog they owned for a year when ample reason is provided for why the new home is not working out.

The threatening phone calls full of profanity and derogatory comments made by the seller because I stopped payment of the check for half of the sale were very hurtful.  When I asked the seller why the owner could not at least call me she ignored the inquiry.

I do not recommend such breeders because the seller stated that the miniature dachshund I bought was an outside dog.  That does not explain why it preferred to urinate on the carpet rather than grass.  Besides this breed does not do well outside in the winter.  The seller is willing to tell the story any way necessary.  Between the internet listings on puppyfind and the animals I viewed at the home there are at least 4 breeds of purebred dogs plus several producing cats in a home with an estimated 1300 sq. footage.  These people frequently put dogs on kijiji.com and hoobly.com as well.

Dishonesty and threatening phone calls and profanity and misrepresentation are bad enough but when a breeder(s) is not willing to take back a dog showing aggression and when the seller knew very young children were in the new home--this is a travesty to me.

Oh, and the distance that I would have had to travel to meet the actual owner and view the environment the dog was living in?  Was only 8 minutes from the seller's house.  I checked the address on the AKC document and map quested it yesterday after another disturbing phone call from the seller.  I distinctly requested the desire to meet the owner but I guess 8 minutes is just too far from the seller's house.

The seller threatened me with profanity that the owner would prosecute me for the check I stopped because I signed the paper that the owner was no longer responsible once the dog left the seller's premise.  So, I sent another check to avoid a court scene.  But what about the safety of my infant grand son and other family members if I cannot get the dog to become social?  I don't feel right passing the dog to another family either.  This dog runs my life.

It takes quite an ignorant person to not adopt a dog from a rescue while over 2 million are being killed annually.

"Breeders" often inbreed dogs, which should have been a red flag for you when you were asked to sign a release based on genetics. Your experience is one of self-manifestation derived from your own lack of education and common sense. This has nothing to do with the poor dog who "runs your life".  You aren't a person who should have a dog if a dog "runs your life". You aren't sharing an enriching experience with your dog because of your inability to understand how to.

Sad situation, and the reason those of us in rescue suffer consequences of re-homing owner surrenders.
