This company sends out capture e-mails to large buckets of people. If you click on any link in that e-mail, they infect you with a worm that gives them an indication that you followed the link.  Once they have your IP, then they warn you that you are infected with the very virus they just gave you.  All the prompts lead the victim to then call the hot line, whereby a telephone voice tells them they are infected with a computer virus that must be removed.  Once they have your confidence, they charge your credit card for $215.98 or there abouts for bogus software that just spies on you and increases the number of cheats on cons with their hands in your pocket.  The reason why we know this, is that they tried to hit a widow from our church, living on a retirement income.  Lucky she had a few security people who knew enough to protect her from suffering extreme loss.  Their M.O. is that they get beligerent with the victim.  The demand, yes, demand your credit card info, your password, your personal information, and a whole host of other things.  Until you are broke and have 1000s of dollars in damages.  They are off shore and impossible to prosecute.

Apparently DRI*(just about anything having to do with computer support and well known brands) like the one we posted DRI*WLOCKER creates a bit of stir. Here are some URL's that have posted many different scams perpetrated by the DRI* whatevers.

DRI or Digital River - the company Digital River has a web page dedicated to handling the fraud.

So, they harrassed this poor widow until she was so frightened that she gave them her credit card.  They installed a root kit that disabled her BIOS admin, turned off her firewall, wrecked her PC with so much spyware that it wasn't even functional.  This whole nightmare cost her over $2000.00 in expenses and greif beyond measure.  She had to cancel all her bank accounts, change her phone number, junk her pc, buy a new pc, and cancel all of her credit cards.  She was born in the 40's.  The person claimed to be "security" and told her all kinds of lies to get her to give them her card numbers.  No, that one wont work, try another one.  What's the security number on that one?  Nope, no good. Try another one. Any more?  East Indian accent.  He was yelling at her for not doing it right, so he loaded a remote session on her PC and he completed the fraud himself. Social engineering without conscience.  So, digital river is trying to conceal their dealings by doing business with all these shady companies while appearing to be helpful if anyone complains about being ripped off.  This is just outright theft by intimidation.  The FBI should look into this.
