On November 23rd I gave the owner Shane Ramont a good faith Cashiers check for $4000 toward the down payment on a Land Rover Discovery. Shane Ramont stressed that he would never sell a car that was unsafe; and that in his entire career he had never once sold an unsafe car, (he showed me a picture of his 5 kids and his 7 luxury sports cars saying that he was a strong family man, well respected business leader, and very involved in he church of god, he went on about his religious practices.) I bought his story and said I would take the car, bring it over to their mechanic Chucks Garage and see what was wrong. I was told by Chucks that the car needed $1100 of repairs and it would be fine from there on out. Continue reading
Well I believed that used car sales man Shane Ramont and his side kick Jim Dagley and I took that car with an additional promissory note of $1800.00. The car was referred to Chucks Garage in Lansing, who then worked on the car for 3 weeks and charges me an additional $1150.93, + 3 weeks of rental car rates. I then get my new used car and drive it for the first time. Told by all that the car was SAFE and I could drive to NY if I wanted. Well low and behold I drove the car to Williamsburg, a good 10 miles away, the car started smoking, every idiot light went on, the car started dragging to the right almost as if I had on the brakes. I was so scared I exited at
I then said what do I really need to do? Woods said that you need new ABS Brakes, Brake Fluid, new computer, new water pump, new water pump hose, oil leak, oil leaking on engine, new front and rear wheel bearings, new track rod and drag link, Rod Assy, Drag and Spind and a 4 wheel alignment. New motor for wind shield wiper it was snowing and I had no working wipers! My 10 year old car now was costing 10.950.00!! And it still needed work.
Needless to say I got a lemon. I called Best Car Company for 60 straight days and was told by slime ball Jim Dagley that they would not return the car nor refund me; that the car was as is!
The Owner Shane finally called me 3 months later and said sorry, I have been out with Chemo for the past year on and off, I never said I would not sell you a safe car" No wonder GOD has punished him with Cancer, He is evil!
Please do not EVER buy a car or truck from BEST CAR COMPANY!
Needless to say. I ended up trading the car in for a new car from a reputable Land Rover Dealership.

First of all, I would like to address a few of the key points of this complaint. Collette Russell did indeedd come into our dealership on November 23rd to purchase the 2000 Land Rover Discovery. That is the ONLY fact of her complaint in regards to myself and Best Car Co. She indicated that she was at the dealership the previous Sunday while we were closed and looked the the vehicle and would like to purchase it. I, Jim Dagley was the salesperson on the purchase. I asked Collette Russell if she would like to test drive the vehicle and she indicated yes. I pulled up the vehicle for the test drive and noticed that it needed gas and told Collette Russell that I would be right back and she asked if she could ride with me, which I said yes. In transit to the gas station we both noticed that the ABS light along with the traction control light and the oil light we all active on the instrument cluster. I told her that I did not know what the problems were associated with those lights being on. She asked if we would fix the vehicle and my response was no, we would more than likely wholesale the vehicle instead of selling it to a retail customer. She indicated to me that she would still like to purchase the vehicle "at the right price". I also specifically asked her at least 3 times if she was sure this was the only vehicle that she was interested in and she indicated YES. We got back to the dealership from the gas stop and test drive to discuss the transaction and she indicated that she definately wanted to buy the vehicle. The owner SHAYE Ramont (not SHANE) indicated to Collette that not knowing what problems existed on the vehicle he was skeptical on her purchase and that if she really wanted the vehicle we would have to sell the vehicle in AS-IS condition. Collette than indicated that she indeed still wanted the vehicle but not at our original asking price. The price of the vehicle was negotiated down to a figure that Collette was happy with but was also told that NO REPAIRS could be made on our end of the sale and Collette did indeed sign the federal buyers guide that indicated she was buying this vehicle in AS-IS condition along with a form that states in was being sold AS-IS with no warranty expressed or implied. Collette than asked if we had a service center that we dealt with that could look at her vehicle. We indicated that Chucks garage here in Lansing could look at the vehicle and let her know what the cost of repairs would be. She agreed and also asked that whatever the cost of repairs could she set it up where she could write us a check for the cost of repairs and we could hold the check for a couple of weeks while she got her funds around. We gratiously agreed. The initial $4000.00 that was given to us WAS NOT a down payment but was actually the cost of the vehicle. The additional $1150.93 was actually the cost to repair HER vehicle and she agreed and also contacted Chucks garage herself on 2 occasions and talked with David who owns the repair shop and authorized a couple more repairs herself along with all the other repairs that were also authorized by herself. After the fact, I myself picked up her vehicle and brought it back here to Best Car Co. where she was to pick up the vehicle. She called me the day of pickup to ask if there was any way I could have someone meet her at the rental car place to bring HER vehicle to her and she would in turn bring that person back to the dealership and write the check for repairs that we agreed to hold for 2 weeks. After an employee of the dealership met her at the rental car facility she than indicated she could only drop off the employee about a mile from the dealership and that he would have to call us to come and pick him up because she a dinner engagement that she was already late to. She at that point handed that employee her check for repairs and went on her way. After the fact she ultimately stopped payment on the said check because she was not happy with the repairs which we had already paid for on her behalf. The bottom line here is Collette Russell has a problem with Chucks garage who actually repaired her vehicle and not us here at Best Car Co. We were COMPLETELY up front and honest with her at the time of sale. Maybe she should have had the vehicle inspected before she actually bought it but she never did which is not our fault. Most of her claims in the complaint are blatent lies on her part to try and twist this into a "poor me" situation that doesn't hold any validity. Here at Best Car Co. our reputation and good word of mouth are the most important assets that we can own and we strive to make it right with all customers unless, like in this case they are just completely unreasonable customers that are trying to get something for nothing. I myself have been selling cars for 15 years now and have a fleet of satisfied customers that have bought multiple vehicles from me over the years and will be back to buy more.

We told her that Chucks Garage here in Lansing could look at the vehicle and let her know what the cost of repairs would be. She agreed and also asked that whatever the cost of the repairs would be could she set up a payment plan with us here at the dealership in regards to said problems. The owner, SHAYE agreed to allow her to make payments on any/all repairs that were needed and she agreed. The initial $4000 that was given to us WAS NOT a down payment but was actually the cost of the vehicle. The additional $1150.93 was actually the cost to repair HER vehicle and she agreed and also contacted Chucks garage and talked with David who is the owner of Chucks garage and authorized a couple other repairs to her vehicle along with all other repairs that were ok'd by Collette herself. After that fact, Collette also stopped payment on the check for $1150.93 that she paid us with to get her vehicle repaired. The bottom line of this complaint is that Collette knew the vehicle that she "just had to have" had problems and ok'd all repairs done herself. She was given full disclosure that she was buying the vehcile in AS-IS condition and any/all repairs needed would be her own responsibility. It seems to me that her main complaint should be with Chucks garage in Lansing and not with us here at Best Car Company. Most of her claims in the complaint are blatent lies on her part to try and twist this into a "poor me" situation that doesn't have a whole lot of validity. Here at Best Car Company our reputation and good word of mouth is one of the most important assets that we can own here and we strive to make it right with all customers unless, like in this case they are just completely unreasonable customers that are trying to get something for nothing.
