We took our child to meet with David about an issue with our son, he seemed as a entergetic good person, but before we decided to sign the reatianer my husband insisted that we do a little reasearch as he had bad vibes. Some of the things we found we extremley suprising!

After months of continuances and negotiations, David Alan Coolidge, a former School of Medicine student and resident adviser, pleaded guilty Friday to three counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.
In accordance with the plea agreement his lawyers negotiated with the state, Coolidge will begin his 30-day sentence in the Durham County Jail this morning. His four-to-five-year prison term was suspended, and he will be placed under special supervised probation for the next five years.
The more serious statutory sex offense charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
The charges against Coolidge, 28, stemmed from three incidents during a two-day period in May 1997 when Coolidge had anal sex with a 13-year-old boy he met through a community soccer program. Coolidge, who also holds a law degree from the University, had invited the boy to spend a night with him in his room in Southgate Dormitory and, after the first night, telephoned the boy's parents to request that he stay another evening.

I am so happy I listened to my husband for once, this person should be barred from the state of NC.

Joesph you must either:
A. Be an associate of this law firm
B. Be just flat out a weirdo
C. or have no ethics
How can you state a convicted Child Molester should have the right to have a law firm that specializes in helpng troubled teens!!!
Why don't you take your child there and let him spend the weekend for some one on one consultations?

The original complainant provided links to news articles documenting factual information. David Alan Coolidge, Jr. licensed to practice law in NC. He was admitted to the bar in 2007. Ten years prior, according to the Duke Chronicle, he served jail time for convictions related to his raping an innocent, unwilling 13 year old boy. He was a medical student at Duke at the time of the rape, but had already graduated from law school. The records of how he gained admittance to the bar 10 years later are not available to the public. Anyone certainly has the right to hire this attorney, but at the same time, anyone (like the original poster) has the right NOT to work with this or any other attorney. For any reason. Coolidge's molesting an innocent child seems, to me, to be among the very best reasons for consumers to seek other representation.

Just because this lawyer was convicted of an offense involving his sexual gratification with a minor does not mean that he's unfit to practice law. Just because he was a registered sex offender and is a convicted felon does not mean he can't do a good job for you trial. Too often we think that once someone has made a mistake, they are tainted for life. That's not true.
Don't judge a book by its cover. The lawyer you consulted with may be perfectly capable of defending your son. He may do a fine job. The state bar has said that, while he was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor, he is fit to practice law. That should be good enough for you.
