I am appalled by the sales tactics of The Kirby Company. My husband and I bought our first house about a year ago. Since then, we have received repeated phone calls from this company asking if we wanted a "free carpet cleaning." Since we do not accept phone solicitation in our household, my answer has always been "no" and to ask if something can be sent in the mail. Each time I ask them to put us on the company Do Not Call list. Furthermore, many of the calls we receive have been after 9 pm on weeknights or before 8 am on the weekends. As a high school teacher, I get up at 4:30 am, so I am often in bed before 9. And as for before 8 am on weekends... no one should be forced to rush downstairs to get the phone for a solicitation call.
Today was the best Kirby Company phone call of all. Once again, I was contacted for a "free rug cleaning" and this time they said that my husband had been referred by a colleague. I don't know the colleague's name and I stated that we don't accept phone solicitation, and for them to send us something in the mail. This time, the woman didn't back down -- she kept trying to say "but this is a referral" and I became angry. I told her that I didn't know who she was, but I wanted our household put on the "Do Not Call" list. Finally, she told me that "I clearly had a problem, and then she hung up on me.
I have been trying to find the phone number of the local Kirby office, so that I could explain to the manager that now, not only would I never purchase a Kirby, I will also tell everyone I know to never buy a Kirby because of the rude way in which I was treated. I can't find a phone number to call, but I stumbled upon this website. So I thought this was a good place to start!

I finally had to call the sheriff's office just to ask what to do about the Kirby door-to-door people. They are now coming twice a week and it's a different person every time so I can't ask them not to return. Since it's not illegal to knock on my door and try to sell me something, I was advised to ask them to leave and if they don't, to call the cops.
So I placed a "No Soliciting" sign on my front door. I included the warning that this WAS my request for them to leave and if they ring the bell or knock, I would not hesitate to call the sheriff. I really hope it works, since the other comments describing their pushy, relentless tactics are SO TRUE! I absolutely hate to be rude, but I often have to literally shut the door in their faces to get them to desist, after saying no at least 5 times. They are out of control!!

I worked for them for a while (never got paid for all my time and sales, but that's another story).
They are not listed as "Kirby" they are listed under "Linder and Associates" and their phone number is 440-777-7084
Good luck trying to get off the list though, they have some very shady business practices.

I used to work for Kirby in New York. Their employees are taught to be relentless. Their business tactics are misleading, at best, an borderline criminal at worst. If they refuse to stop calling, then you can contact your local police department or sheriff's office and file a complaint. Make your issue as public as possible. The only way we can stop these scumbags, is taking away their business. Getting their tactics made public is the best way to do this.

My daughter did phone work for Kirby about a year ago. She did the phone solicitation (sp?) thing for them.
She told me many times how people got po'd at the calls, and to earn money, she took it in stride.
She said one 'cold-call' went very postal and told her that she and her company sucks.
She said: well, we are a vacuum cleaner company, sir. I'd hate to see the complaints we'd get if our machines blew.
To this day, she's not sure why, but the guy got the free cleaning and turned around and bought one.
She said they'd add names to the 'don't call' list all the time. She also said she's not sure what, if anything, happens after that.
As you said, try calling a local distributor.
