Cold-called me offering a 1 a month trial membership over the telephone, they didn't tell me that one month later they would rip me off for 98 which they took from my bank account. I tried to get a refund and was told categorically "NO WAY"! I was told I should have cancelled my membership, which I would have done had I got the membership pack in time to cancel, by the time I did try to cancel the time had elapsed. I have written to them again, and again was told NO WAY! In my opinion they are guilty of sharp practice and I would recommend that people do not touch them with a barge pole. If they phone offering you the same membership I was offered, for goodness sake hang up!

Having read this thread through, I thought it best to answer some of the points raised by Leigh.. At the Money Club, salespersons are fully scripted, all clients are informed of the usual cost of being a member (98.00) but are invited to use the service for a 4 week trial for 1.00. Once joined. clients are then sent a pack which encloses a direct debit mandate explaining all debit details and notifying the client of the dates of those debits. The trial period is fully refundable if cancelled before the end date which again is explained in the pack. It is unfortunate that Leigh did not receive the pack, all packs are sent the day after a client has joined and leave our offices in good faith with Royal Mail. All clients are also called a week after they have joined by a Money Club Account Manager who introduces the services to the client and welcomes them as a member. We find this is the best way to make sure clients use the service within their trial period and to answer any questions that they may have. Failing that we also keep our clients informed throughout their membership and trial period by emailing them twice weekly with special offers. Without Leighs membership details, I am unable to answer this specific case but all clients are dealt with by a professional team who have been providing our services to Money Club members for over 20 years. If Leigh would like to contact us with her membership details, I would be happy to look into this case further.
