My husband and I went and bought 3 rooms of furniture at the Room store in Glen Burnie MD. We took the insurance on all of our furniture, once we moved we were told by the Customer Service Department at their main headquarters that since we moved it voided the insurance on our furniture.

Their sales people are deceptive and unknowledgable about any of their products, our dining room and bedroom sets are made from Poplar Wood from India and it is very fragile and soft, no one informed us of this. We have been bilked out of $600.00 in insurance and to top it off we are never buying from this company again and I will make sure to spread the word.

The furniture warranty or insurance is commonly offered and sold by furniture stores that do their own delivery. The clause you are speaking of where the warranty is void after departing the delivery address is one of those small typed lines on the contract. Though it should have been explained to you, it is sort of understandable why they void the service once you move. I, too, was in your position once after a furniture purchase and move and like you I was made aware of the clause AFTER the purchase and address change.

How it was explained to me was that they guarantee that at the time of delivery, to your home location, that the furniture is in new condition, with no defects, stains, tears, etc. Once you take that furniture, throw it on a moving truck, and carry it into a new place many problems can occur. The furniture store does not, will not, and actually should not cover the damage caused by a move, mover, or moving company. I guess the furniture company is just trying to protect itself when we as consumers just want to protect our investment in rooms full of furniture! But, as usual, there was probably some nim-nut that damaged their furniture after a move and held the company responsible for damaged items in turn ruining it for the rest of us..hence the wonderful new insured only at delivery address clause!

So, I can sympathize with you on your situation. Like I said, it happened to me too, but since it WAS in the contract that I neglected to go through with a fine tooth comb, I didnt have a good fight. My salesman didnt explain it to me either so I know where you are coming from. Unfortunately, I had to suck it all up. I surely know now what to expect the next time I go furniture shopping!

Why on earth would anyone purchase insurance on furniture. I can see purchasing home owners or renters insurance on your property but not from the furniture store. You need to get a garantee from the furniture store not insurance.
