We recently hired a couple of gentleman going door-to-door looking for work cutting/trimming tree/palm tree's, bushes, etc. We hired them as we have a bunch of tree's that needed to be trimmed. They offered a decent price and seemed friendly enough. As for workmanship, they did a great job, except they missed a tree.

They left a few branches in my lawn, after repeatedly asking them if they where going to take care of it. They arrived at around 3:30, and within 20min the gentleman, mark, came to the door and asked me if he could receive the check early, as he needed Gatorade, stating he would leave his partner here to continue working, along with all of there equipment while he ran to the bank to cash the check and then the store.  I did not feel comfortable giving him the check after only 20 min of work. I felt bad so I started looking for some cash to give him, he stated '$10 should be fine, actually, make it $20, that should cover it'. I thought that was kind of odd as Gatorade's are 2 for $3 around here, but I gave him $15 anyways. He ran to the store and came back and continued working.

They worked for a few hours, then came back to the door stating he needed the check to run the branches and whatnot to the dump, stating he had no cash and would have to cash the check to do so. I really had no choice so I gave him the check and he stated he would be back in 45min to get another load. He showed up an hour and 1/2 later, and loaded up the truck again, than asked if he could leave his equipment here, as the truck was full with debris, and would return in the morning to finish cleaning up and get his equipment. I asked for a invoice, and after 10 min of 'looking' in the truck, they could not find their receipt book, so they wrote it on a peice of paper.

The following morning I was outside, and the neighbor came up to me and stated that there was a bunch of debris in her yard from our trees. I stated that when the gentlemen return, I would ask them to pick them up. As I was walking back into the house I noticed the cooler that they had left had a empty bottle of alcohol in the cooler. I was in awe. I started looking for their business card for their phone number, and must have lost it, so I started doing a search and could find no record of their business anywhere.

They arrived at around 9am, and started cleaning up. They had left some debris on the roof of the house and I asked them if they where going to take care of it, which in turn the gentleman mark stated 'yeap yeap yeap', I went inside and came back out 10 min later and it was still there, so I asked them again, and he stated the same response. 10 min later I walked back out there and it was not on the roof anymore, and they told me they where taking off, thanked me for my business and left. Walking around I noticed they left a lot of little debris around, not fully cleaning up, and as I walked back into my house, I noticed the tree limb was laying next to the house, dropped from the roof and left there.

All in all, they did good work on the tree's that they did finish, and cleaned up most of the work. I got their card before they left and I did a search on the Contractors State License Board for their license #, it did not exist. It states it's a 8 digit #, and their card only gave a 5 #. I did alot of research and could not find them, or the address he listed on 'invoice' was not even a legit address.
