Raphael Aron represents himself as an expert in cult-counselling. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and has taken courses in psychology. He deceives people into believing that he is a professional expert by creating associations and companies where he appoints himself head of theses companies or association to give people the impression that he should be paid high fees for his professionalism when in fact he charges more than a professional psychiatrist.

His colleague who recommended Mr Aron to me described him as 'more of a businessman' than a man of the clergy.

I hired Mr Aron to come to Sydney to interview my son and give me a report of his findings as my son was living with a mind-controlling person who was not allowing my son to function normally.

Mr Aron charged me $1,500 per session to see my son. That included a return flight from Melbourne to Sydney on the same day. Initially phone calls to him were free but soon enough his secretary informed me that he also charged $95 for a 45 minute phone call which had to be set up by an appointment. On top of the $95 I was paying the interstate phone rates to call Melbourne. I worked many overtime shifts in my job to save that money for Mr Aron to see my son.

When asking Mr Aron for a detailed report about me son, he stated that he could not give me any detailed reports due to the 'privacy act' when in fact it doesn't apply because Mr Aron has no medical degree. A counsellor is not regulated so the privacy laws do not apply to him.

According to Mr Aron's self proclaimed expert finding he informed me that my son was heterosexual and not gay. He would not give me any letter stating that fact for which I hired him to do as he was unlicensed to make a medical diagnosis.

When I couldn't afford any more sessions with him, he would not consider giving me a discount.

Here is a quote taken from one of his emails:

"I personally did not receive any payment, not one cent, in relation to your son. Yor payments were for the Sydney visits which went to the Gateway Family Centre which employs me."

Mr Aron created and owns Gateway Family Centre a non profit organization therefore all payments were made to him and his company.

He avoided answering certain questions in emails which I sent him, one being what his goal was? How long it would take him to reach it?

Mr Aron found my son's case too difficult and midstream changed the goal which we were both working towards.

Mr Aron was hired by me and when it became apparent to me that he could not handle my son's case and in an act of despair, he asked me to hand over $10,000 to my son which he claimed would repair our relationship. He wouldn't continue sessions with my son unless I did so.

My brother was in a small cult in Australia. I contacted Mr Aron and asked his advice and help. He told me that he was already involved with and working with this particular group and would help me. I gave a reasonable payment to him and he said he will do what he could for him. Mr Aharon travelled across Australia and visited this group/cult numerous times. He managed to persuade two individuals, one of them a parent and one her child, out of the group, who then left the cult altogether. He spoke with my brother did what he could to help him understand why the situation he was in was not good for him. He continued to monitor the group now and then after those members left and stay in contact with my brother. My brother has his mind set in the ideology of this group and will not see another perspective, he is now living with two people who were in the group and is attached to them. Mr Aron contacted people who live close by and asked them to visit the group regularly and speak with those young men, until the men stopped receiving them. I feel that under the circumstances he did a lot for the situation and made some headway with this group. He acted reasonably and responsibly and for the years afterwards he continued to send people over to stay in touch with them. I still contact him about my brother. I believe he does all that he can to help those in these challenging situations and can do as much as he is able to. He often steps into challenging and potentially dangerous situations to help these individuals and does this at his own personal risk, and those who work with him expose themselves to challenging situations. I feel that the payment given to them is due. We cannot expect success in every case and in our case much was done to break up and influence the group.

I hired Raphael Aron whom I trusted to be a cult expert to evaluate my son's psychological condition and to get him away from a mind controlling person.

As requested by Raphael Aron I paid $4,000 to Gateway Family Centre, a non profit organization formed by Raphael Aron. Ironically he lists himself as a Director of this tax avoidance entity as a means to pay himself and others.

After meeting my son, Raphael Aron advised me with the "good news" that my son is 'not gay' but refused to put it in writing. He also refuses to provide any adequate reports about my son's circumstances which I paid him for out of my hard earned money. My purpose for hiring Raphael Aron was to save my son from a mind controlling homosexual who has forced himself upon my son.

Without the written documentation from Raphael Aron, I am unable to assist my son to advance his education and quality of life as a gainfully employed responsible citizen.

In summary:

Raphael Aron represents himself as an expert in cult counselling when in fact he only has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and has taken courses in psychology but never received any formal psychological credentials, degrees or licensing.

Raphael Aron deceives people into believing that he is a qualified expert by creating numerous non profit associations and companies. He appoints himself head of these companies to give people the false impression that he should be paid high fees for his expertise. In fact he charges far more than a professional psychiatrist.

One of his colleagues who recommended Raphael Aron to me described him much later as, "more of a businessman" than a man of the clergy. Now it became obvious to me that his motives were more financially oriented than to help my son. I felt I was being used!

On top of the exorbitant fees I paid Raphael Aron, his secretary, Ursula informed me that I was now being charged $95.00 for every 45 minute phone conversation with Raphael Aron. On top of that fee I had to pay the interstate charges for the phone call.

In an email to me on 13 July 2008 Raphael Aron stated:

"I personally did not receive any payment, not one cent, in relation to your son. Your payments were for the Sydney visits which went to the Gateway Family Centre which employs me." Ironically Gateway Family Centre is another one of the organizations created by Raphael Aron.

When it became apparent to me that Raphael Aron couldn't handle my son's case I asked him, "what his goal was?" and "how long it would take him to achieve it?" as I couldn't for see myself paying these exorbitant fees for much longer. Raphael Aron avoided answering these questions and others which I emailed him.

Finally Raphael Aron advised me that the only way to repair my relationship with my son was to hand over a very large amount of money. Unless I did so, he refused to continue having counselling sessions with my son.

However in reality I knew that by handing over this large sum of money to my son would be in vain as it would be intercepted by the mind controlling person my son was living with as a means to purchase drugs.
