My family and I have been the latest victims of Tyler's Jefferson Motors in Mt Vernon. On June 18, 2010 after driving 22 hours from a family vacation to Disney World in Florida, our car died on I-57. We took our car to two separte car shops who could not fix it when we were told to go to Tyler Jefferson.
Not knowing the area or anything about this dealership we did. Boy was that a mistake. We first meet Mike Stieman who in the beginning was nice. We test drove two vehicles and settled on a 2008 Ford Edge.
Mike quoted the car at 21,995 and gave us 3200 for our trade in. However, when the paperwork was drawn up the listing price was 24,995, They increased the price of the Ford by the amount of our trade in.
They then took the new amount of 24,995 less 3200 the amount of our trade in and listed the car at 21,995. Basically, we got nothing for our trade in. But wait it gets better, they double charged us in taxes and fees and hidden costs.
They also charged us 5,000 for taking out the loan. My husband's credit score is 770 and mine is 715. We should have not been charge this amount for taking out the loan.
But I digress, when we got home we pulled up their website and the car we just bought for 24,995 was listed on thier website for 21,995. I called the dealship back and they could care less.
They claimed their website is handled by a third party and that they are not responsible for the site. Which is crap. Needless to say i will be contacting the better business bureau, states atty office, states representative office and anyone else that will listen. My goal is to screw them as much as they screw us. Stay toned.

First I would like to apologize to Mr. and Mrs. Gorman for the frustrating and confusing experience they had while purchasing their car from us. As a company that has been in business for over 59 years we have taken pride in our ethical business practices and founded our reputation thereon.
After careful consideration and review of the original documents I researched all of their concerns. The original offer to purchase made from the Gormans was filled out almost entirely in blue ink, the sales price listed is $24,995 the credit given for their trade is $3,200 with a difference of $21,795 which is signed by Mr. and Mrs. Gorman. All of these numbers exactly match what was typed up and submitted to the lender for the final terms. In addition, the state of Illinois charges $25 for a transfer and $95 for a title for a total of $120 this is the same amount on the original and final paperwork. The sales tax and doc fee are also the same on the original initial offer and final documents. There is not a $5,000 loan fee listed anywhere nor was there a loan fee charged at all on any of the paperwork. The trade in credit of $3,200 may seem low but their cars transmission was not working and the left front fender needed repairs.
Our website is maintained by a third party, they arrive and take photos of our new inventory then we supply them with a brief description and price of those cars. We are not in the practice of monitoring their updates. We have an internet salesperson that receives emails from customers that are interested in a car listed on the Internet with the car and its information attached.
We hope the Gormans like their Ford Edge and we hope to work this out and help them with the purchase of their next car.

First I would like to apologize to Mr. and Mrs. Gorman for their frustration and confusion concerning their recent car purchase from us at Tyler's. As a company that has been in business for over 59 years we have taken pride in our ethical business practices and reputation founded thereon.
Upon review of the entire file I carefully examined the handwritten original offer that was made from the Gorman's to purchase the 2008 Ford Edge. This was completed almost entirely in blue ink with the sale price of $24,995 and a trade in credit of $3,200 after sales tax and doc fees the difference was $21,795. There was also a note regarding the desired financing terms requested for this loan amount. I compared this to the final terms that were printed and submitted to their lender. Not a single number was changed. The state of Illinois charges $95 for a car title and $25 for a title transfer for a total of $120 that is exactly what was charged to the Gormans on the initial and final documents. The doc fee and the sales tax were the same on both documents as well. There was no loan fee of $5,000 or any other amount for that matter. The trade in credit may have seemed low but again the transmission was not working and there was left front fender damage to be repaired.
Our website is maintained by a third party they come take the photos of our inventory and we supply them with a brief description and price for each car. We are not in the practice of monitoring their updates. We do have an Internet Salesperson, which receives an email each time a customer is interested in a car along with the information for the car of interest.
We would like to thank the Gormans for their business and sincerely hope they enjoy their Ford Edge, if not we would be happy to assist them with their next car purchase.
