I am enrolled with University of Pheonix Online. I recieved a FAFSA loan which completely covered my courses until Jan. 11, 2010. I started in April 2009. I did get a refund of $546 because I had more than I needed. I had to take a leave of absence because I needed surgery and never left school, restarted classes in August, which cost me another $690.00
I applied for a second loan thru Stafford to upgrade my computer and for living expenses while being a full time student. I was approved for $3066 all together. They told me once my grades were in I would get it as long as I was passing the courses. My grades were an A- and a B for my first nine weeks.
My check was disbursded on Oct 6, 2009. I then recieved a notice saying that the college was keeping all of my money for classes (which have already been paid til Jan. 2010) This money should have came to me. I have tried to call them to get answers. All of a sudden no one will return my calls or e-mails.
I am still enrolled in school. I don't want to give them more reason to keep my money. I cannot get any answers from anyone at the University of Pheonix or their bank that has my money. Before they would call 3 times a week checking in, now that they have over $7000 of loan money and money is owed to me I cannot get any answers.

Hi:
I understand that you applied for and got approval for about $3,000 or more dollars, but FAFSA is for Federal Pell Grant money that should not be a loan.
It is for free money that you apparently were approved for.
I am dealing with UOP right now concerning financial issues. I am eligible for a Federal Pell Grant that can be used for school and other expenses. This money does not have to be paid back and when you fill out your FAFSA forms you are supposed select if you want the school to disburse the money for you or if you want it deposited in your checking account.
So when you said you got a loan for personal things this makes me think something is not correct. Typically Stafford Loans are provided for tuition and books and nothing else as it relates to UOP.
Now if they are keeping your Pell Grant and you did not give them permission to do so than you can nail them - go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ then select 3 FAFSA follow up then select View and Print Your Student Aid Report and follow the information to login in (two step process so don't get upset). Once your in you should look at you application and see what you selected for how to receive your pell grant money. If you selected for your money to be direct deposited than you can send an E-mail to your financial advisor concerning your report and how they did not have a right to tamper with your funds.
Good Luck
