Verifications Inc, is used by many companies to obtain pre employment data on employees including credit, background checks, and verification of employment.

Unfortunately, they do not verify if they have permission by the employee/candidate to do all of these checks, and are currently embroiled in multiple lawsuits.  They not only have been providing verification of employment, but have been providing actual paychecks, health information,etc.

This not only violates, FCRA, but HIPPA as well. They do not verify that the employee has signed a release, but hope that a prospective employee's word has covered this.

Warning to any potential employers considering them -- beware : you will be involved in lawsuits from candidates, employees, and others if you use them, they do not follow the rules..
