I live in a rural site with slow satellite internet service. I called Verizon Broadband Fusion to see if I can try their service. I told them I do not have a Verizon wireless signal in my house. They said they put an antenna on the roof and it will likely pick up a signal even though phones do not work. Lie #1. The installation person who came said they never do that, antennas are usually chest high and almost always where there is no phone service, the can antenna will not pick up a signal.
The sales rep asked if I wanted to bundle phone service with the internet. I said I don't have a Verizon cell signal at the house and asked if the phone worked through the internet using VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol, like Skype). He said yes, for 20 bucks a month I could have unlimited phone service. I said sure, I'll try that. Lie #2. We scheduled a visit from their rep to test if the internet would work in a couple weeks.
A couple days later a box arrived Fed Ex with the phone box. It worked off a cell signal, not plugged in to the internet or using VOIP. It also included a two year contract I was never informed of, or agreed to Lie by omission #3. I immediately called without installing the unit. They said I would have to return it to a Verizon Store. Possibly Lie #4.
I drove the 45 minutes to the neares Verizon Store. They told me I should have mailed it back. They also said there would be a return fee of $35 and a penalty for breaking my contract. I started to go nutty. The supervisor came out and was very helpful and they took the unit and did not charge me. They spent a lot of time with me calling Verizon Wireless to get out of my contract.
Verizon cancelled my land line without telling me or asking Lie by omission #5. Verizon landline service is a completely different company than Verizon wireless. I made at least six long, multi-agent, calls to Verizon trying to get my land line restored and wireless cancelled (in addition to at least 3 the verizon store rep made on my behalf).
It has been nearly three weeks now and I still do not have my land line back. I've been told several times that their rep will call me back (my ATT cell number) and they never have. Lie #6. I had to do a complex verification service to cancel my wireless account and switch the port to my land line-- but nothing like this was required to switch the land line to the unrequested wireless service.
The fusion rep never mentioned they were enrolling me in a 2-year wireless contract with Verizon. I have already received a bill from them, but still cannot get the account properly cancelled. The land line is one I use for a home business and I have been unable to get incoming calls. This has hurt me financially along with the many hours on hold or re-explaining to their representatives that I never agreed to the contract.
The installation rep who came to try the set up said this happens alot. The sales are done on a commission and she said reps will say anything to make a sale.
I find it amazing that my landline could have been switched to a wireless account overnight with no approval from me, and it is three weeks of trying to switch it back and I keep being told it takes weeks to make the change.
