After reading some of the reports about Walden University, I couldn't agree more with them. Walden has very little academic support and the financial aid department is a joke. I had all my financial aid forms completed and filed within the first week. After 6 months, i was still getting unanswered e-mails and phone calls. Only after reporting them to the Department of Education I finally started getting 2 e-mails a day and phone calls.
Please read through the reports and other sources about Walden before you make my mistake. Employers, for the most part, will not even look at a degree from Walden or most online degrees.
I finally did extensive research and went with Western Governors University. The total tuition every 6 months is only $2900.00. You have to take proctored exams once or twice in that period but the credibility factor is much higher.

Walden is Not a Waste of Time

AUTHOR: J Atl - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 14, 2011

I am not an employee but I am a former graduate of Walden University and I am currently a Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) Professor at a public university. To state that employers will not recognize a Walden degree is misleading and false. My Walden degree has been an asset and what I have learned has assisted me in my career. Moreover, I decided to attend law school part time and I am currently in my last year at a 1 tier law school according to US News and World Report. Nonetheless, my degree gave me an advantage over other candidates for admission. Now that I have given you the positives of my Walden experience and degree, I must note that Walden University isn't for everyone. I will be the first to say that if you are looking for a traditional experience where you have professor hounding you for assignments, or counselors egging you on to complete your degree then Walden isn't for you. You have to motivated , disciplined and dedicated to make it through Walden's programs. This is a school where only the strong will survive. I am grateful for my experience and the degree, not to mention the business connections and network opportunities  I made all over the country. I will say Walden was the best choice for me! Only you can make that determination for you. Good Luck!

Walden is a waste of time.

Your reply seems a bit biased. You sound like you actually work for Walden. Since I have no connection with them anymore, thankfully, I can speak from personal experience. Walden is far worse than University of Phoenix. The turn over rate at Walden is terrible, the financial aid department is the worst I've ever even heard of, and the staff never returns emails or calls. Beware of Walden.

Walden University is an INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING, not a DAY CARE...

AUTHOR: Truth Detector - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 08, 2008

There is nothing like someone who failed to take advantage of a grand educational opportunity smearing the university - when, in all likelihood, it is the failure of the student to put in the work that resulted in said failure.

I just completed my M.P.A in Public Administration with a specialization in Public Policy from Walden University. In December of this year, I will begin the Doctorate Program. As with every online university, you only get back what you put into it. Unfortunately, there are countless people who cannot fathom any higher education program where the Admin and instructors fail to hold your hand 100% of the time. The OP's version of 'academic support' probably translates to 'I couldn't understand the syllabus and someone didn't explain it to me like I'm a moron'.

People, online learning is FAR more challenging than a brick and mortar college/university. I got my undergraduate degree from Indiana University. At those places, the 'discussion' portion of your class grade basically amounts to sitting in a class listening to a professor tell you his/her own opinions on the subject matter. Those 'discussions' at Walden are ALL in writing - which means a student must provide more than 'in my opinion' or 'I think' answers that make the cut at campuses. You have to make valid points backed up with scholarly sources. At Walden University, you have to actually READ and COMPREHEND the course material - which is extensive. But the reward for completing such a difficult program is a level of education and writing skills that is unmatched by any other program available.

As far as the OP's assertion that 'Employers, for the most part, will not even look at a degree from Walden or most online degrees', I was offered a regulatory position with a major telecom as a tariff compliance specialist WEEKS before I even completed my final course. I now make $76,000/year, have paid health/life insurance, three weeks of paid vacation, paid holidays, seven paid personal days, 100% matching 401K, and my Ph.D. tuition and books at Walden paid for by my employer.

In the future, you might want to bring more than your anecdotal so-called 'evidence' to the table when you try to smear a terrific university like Walden. Try actually completing a course, then come talk to all of us about how 'terrible' the place is.

Walden is a joke!!

You are soooo right! Because I had a cousin that went there. She eventually dropped out because of the lack of guidance. The professors do not help you. She is about $15K in debt and has yet to go to school because she doesn't have the money. She gave it all to WU. And then on top of that they have the nerve to put some bullshyt on her credit talking about she has to pay them still $1500...WOW. I checked out WGU also. And I want to go there because of the affordibility and the hands on learning. Although they are also online! I say go for it! They are such a better school.
