Westwood College I became ill and only went to school for 10 weeks. They took my federal tax returns from 2012-2014 to pay the balance of my tuition without my knowledge. I tried to contact them and got no where. Chicago Illinois

I only went to school for 10 weeks. I became ill and was unable to finish school. I contacted the school and let them know.
I never received any bills to repay the loan amount or any other notification that I had to pay it back. When I did my taxes from 2012-2014, I was not informed that the state took my tax return. I wrote to the state education department and sent them my information and explanation of why I did not finish school and they said it did not matter that I was ill. In my letter, I told them I would pay the 10 weeks I attended but they should have not taken 3 years of my tax return without notifying me of this.
I feel this is wrong to take my money without speaking with me or notifying me by mail. I am unemployed and a single mom and depended on those tax returns to survive. :(
Thank you for listening.

Thank you for responding. I have already paid back the loan. They took my Federal Tax Returns for 2012, 2013 & 2014. I do not owe them any more money. Is it possible to get any of this money back?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you

Marie,
This is what this "school" is known for. Good news is that they closed all of their schools nationwide. They stated the reason was due to changes and low student enrollment. What they meant was that the word was out that they are a scam college and nobody was falling for it anymore. If you were a student who attended between 2004 through March 2016, you may qualify for loan forgiveness.
Bad news is that it sounds like your loan is in default. You will need to contact the guarantor who currently holds your loan and start a repayment plan based on your current income. You may be able to consolidate your students loans using FedLoan. Once you have started making payments, you can ask for a loan discharge. If granted, you will receive your payments back and will no longer have to make future loan payments.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I want my three tax returns refunded to me (2012-2014) minus 10 weeks only that I attended! I think this is only fair because I became ill. Westwood College should do right by my request.
I hope someone out there can help me fight. I don't know what else to do.
Thank you,
