I bought a new home from White and Akers Construction in Iuka, Ms September 2008 and immediately had problems.
1. No hole in floor for dryer vent
2. Plug in outlets behind the toilet
3. Leak in guest bathroom, repaired 3 times before actually fixing the leak.
4. Ground not proberly graded, sinking in the backyard. I am unable to mow the yard due to improper grading. Having to hire someone to do adequate dirt work.
5. Water heater installed backwards, unable to get to water heater panels.
6. Driveway not sealed, pavement crumbling and already has grass growing through it.
7. Plug in for stove hanging out of sheet rock wall, lying on the floor.
8. Leak in guest bathroom under the shower, ground under house wet.
9. Electrical overload in sons room causing ceiling fan and light not to work.
We have a "year warranty" with this builder but have to make numerous calls for repairs to done. Many repairs not done and builder refuses to fix and wont return our calls.

Hello I'm Mark Akers, I have years of construction experience. I also own several businesses across north MS. I have built houses when I was in collage and later in live I have built my own homes. I also have built whole neighborhoods as well as multi million dollar subdivisions. I would like to stoup the level to address this poor misguided person. I would like to take each part of her complaint one part at a time with a closing remark for my self.
I bought a new home from White and Akers Construction in Iuka, Ms September 2008 and immediately had problems.
She had problems because she wanted to save money and do some of the work herself.
1. No hole in floor for dryer vent
This is true, in her rush to have us complete the job we simply overlooked the hole. But once notified we went 3 times before she let us in to cut the hole and finish the 5 minute job.
2. Plug in outlets behind the toilet
If we are installing a bidet, we always put a GFI outlet. But why would anyone put an electrical outlet behind a toilet?
3. Leak in guest bathroom, repaired 3 times before actually fixing the leak.
I simply do not recall any such leak but do not dispute a new home having some leaks that we gladly will repair. Although I do recall personally stopping by this location to address the complaints of this young lady.
4. Ground not proberly graded, sinking in the backyard. I am unable to mow the yard due to improper grading. Having to hire someone to do adequate dirt work.
I have tractors, dump trucks, track-hoes, bulldozers and other equipment. I would still be over at that job moving dirt and landscaping, replanting grass. We can spend as much outside of a home as the homeowner wants to spend. I would not stop working if the homeowner wanted to keep spending money.
5. Water heater installed backwards, unable to get to water heater panels.
We subjob electrical and most of the plumbing work and the work is guaranteed for one year and if it was messed up we fixed it I'm sure.
6. Driveway not sealed, pavement crumbling and already has grass growing through it.
I do not own a paving company. I also do not recall paying to have any paving done by anyone else. I do know that out of the many homes I have had part in building I have been advised to wait a year or more to allow the oils to wash away so the sealer will adhere.
7. Plug in for stove hanging out of sheet rock wall, lying on the floor.
The electrical is done before the sheetrock and before the insulation so it would stand to reason that if this allegation was true it would have to be fixed to the wall to continue the work on the room.
8. Leak in guest bathroom under the shower, ground under house wet.
If there is a leak under the shower, I would assume the ground would be wet. So we would call the plumber to fix the leak with the one year warranty.
9. Electrical overload in sons room causing ceiling fan and light not to work.
Nichole did call me about a ceiling fan not working. As I recall she was upset that the remote control did not make the fan work. I politely walked to the switch located next to the light switch and flipped it up and the fan started turning. She and the gentleman in the room laughed as if they were embarrassed that they had made another call about nothing serious.
We have a "year warranty" with this builder but have to make numerous calls for repairs to done. Many repairs not done and builder refuses to fix and wont return our calls.
When we were building this house on a nice corner lot, we had two other people that wanted to buy this home, I'm sure they, being older and more understanding of life, would have been more patience and allowed our workers time to finish their jobs with enough time to do their occupations correctly. It is also my understanding even in this down market that this nice lady just sold this house for a profit. I wonder if she told the buyers how badly the house was constructed.
I just found this little project of Nichole's tonight while surfing the web. I have built some of the prettiest homes one could ever dream of. This home was sold to Nichole at a very reasonable price. I built three with the same floor plan and all were sold quickly. I'm truly sorry if Nichole feels I have wronged her in any way. If she knew me at all she would know I go to extremes to have my costumers satisfied with my work.
I can't make every sub-jobber do the best work on every job. We as humans will from time to time make mistakes. But if Nichole feels better by writing this rant, well it's her right. But when I pass that small white frame house I still think it's cute. I hope there will be lots of happy times to come in that house that will be someones home.
