I was told I was 4th or 5th on the list for a puppy out of 2 litters. When the litters came I was suddenly 10th or 11th with no explanation. Then when another litter was expected I was moved farther down the list. I would never have sent a deposit if I was told from the beginning I was not 4th or 5th on the list. I have requested my deposit back and get no response. I told him from the beginning I just wanted a pet, not a show dog or a hunting dog. I even have the notes I took where he told me he didn't see any reason short of an act of God/Nature that I wouldn't get one out of those first 2 litters. It's the better part of 2 years later and no deposit or puppy. At this point I just want my money back.

Factual via Fiction Ms. Blair

Mr. Atkins did get the B.B.B. to rule in his favor placing his Business / Hobby Account in an "A 1" status again after reviewing the facts he sent to them. I varied this standing with the B.B.B. before I made this statement, once again proving Ms Blair has made a fictional statement against Mr. Atkins as well as his Kennel. If this one larger than life evidence can be verified that Mr. Atkins is truthful and honest but Ms. Blair is lacking in these same quality. The rest of her fictional story holds no weight but looses in the end of the decision. If Rio Off Report had the same honorable intention they remove this from their site, now. Sincerely, Mrs Lynn Tessmer V.A.Widow

In case you didn't read everything, I never questioned Ed's breeding ability. It was between him and another breeder who had a puppy that would be ready earlier than Ed's. If Ed had not said he didn't see any reason why I wouldn't get one out of the 2 litters because of how few people he had on the waiting list, I never would have sent in a deposit. If he had said he gave preference to hunters, I would never have sent in a deposit. I am quite familiar with breeding and understand how it works and waiting on a dog. That's why I would have taken the other puppy if Ed had not said the things he did. It was a gift and a pet, not a hunting dog. I even specifically took notes that day, so I would be clear. I even wrote about the Royal Canin food and vaccination schedule as well as that we were number 4 or 5 wanting the puppy. I'm sure he had hunters come along after us and want a puppy.
That's wonderful you have had such good experiences. Might I guess you do some hunting? When I wrote and called him expressing my unhappiness he ignored me. Then eventually after a month of no response I filed a complajnt he said my email said I was taking legal action and that's why he wouldn't respond and that's why I voided our contract. In reality, my email said I was not taking legal action. I wanted to work it out. I don't know what contract he was referring to that I broke and therefore he wouldn't do business with me. These are all things he made up and decided. What was I to do when I've been misled by someone who has my money and won't respond after almost 2 years of having my money?
I have no doubt as long as you praise him and his dogs and don't question him that he is very pleasant. I understand when you like someone you want to defend them. However, all you can truly speak to is your own experience which fortunately for you was good. I, on the other hand, cannot same the same. I also can say things like he did not call my husband ever as he claimed as the call logs prove or me as many times as he claims, that I wrote I wasn't taking legal action as he claimed, etc etc We all make mistakes. Now I only work with breeders I know. My mistake.

Best Breeder Ever

I have had the distinct honor of owning three of Mr. Atkins' Flat Coated Retrievers. I was absolutely shocked to read that someone had filed a complaint against him! Mr. Atkins, in the 25 years I have known him, has never made false promises or steered me wrong in the dog ownership department.
I have visited Mr. Atkins' and seen his operation in person. There is no better breeder of Flat Coats anywhere in this country. You only have to ask any reputable Flat Coat breder about Mr. Atkins, and you will hear that he is basically the Godfather of the breed. His reputation as a hard-working, honest, and reputable breeder has been earned through 50 plus years he has been in business.
Mr. Atkins deserves an A+ rating from BBB. Anyone who discredits him is way off base and perhaps does not understand the uncertain nature of the dog breeding business in general.

Violation of Purchase agreement?

I do not understand where Mr. Adkins comes up with his violation of Purchase agreement. We had nothing in writing and he did not tell me if I wanted my money back because he misled me that it would violate the purchase agreement. I'm not sure how he expected me to know this. In his response to me filing with the BBB is the first time I had heard of this. I'm not sure where he comes up with this. He said he called me several times. He called me twice in 2 days and I responded on the second day. He said in one report he called my husband twice. There is no record of this on phone logs and I never gave him my husband's number. I think, once again, he is confused. As I said, I responded on the second call and did not hear back from him for several weeks. Since he refused to respond I contacted the BBB. At that time he said I broke the agreement by seeking out an attorney according to my email. I suggested he reread my email because it said I did not want to use an attorney. Another example of confusion on his part. After several weeks and no response I didn't know what to do other than contact the BBB. It took me contacting the BBB to get a response from him. He said to the BBB he only sells high performance hunting dogs and that he was selling to me because I had a special situation where I take my dogs to work at vet clinics. He did not tell me he only sells high performance hunting dogs or I would have gone with the other breeder. He is confused, once again, on the part about taking my dogs to work. I do not know where he got that. I can easily have the veterinarians I work with sign affidavits that I don't. Despite what he said to the BBB about no complaints with them, I know he has had other unhappy customers. He is a talker and told me stories of his difficulties after he had my deposit. That did concern me and now I know with good reason. He also said he does not have numeric lists. If that is the case, why did he originally say I was the first one to call on this advertisement and 4th or 5th on the list. I think that implies rather strongly that there is a list. Then when the puppies came we got bumped down behind many people and kept getting bumped. I understand after the fact, he wanted his dogs to go to hunters. I wish he had been clear on this from the beginning. Especially, since before sending a deposit I asked specifically what he thought. I feel at this point, before I sent the deposit, is when he should have said that he gives priority to hunters and that it could be 2 years. He knew it was just a pet we wanted and he knew our timelime. He knew it was a wedding gift for my husband in July. Hard to be confused there on what my expectation was. I was extremely clear on that. I still have my notes from what he said down to his recommended vaccination schedule and the puppy food he fed as well as where we were on this list he claims not to have.

I think the customer who wrote in favor of Mr. Atkins is a bit confused. Probaby based off of what Mr. Atkins said to her. the BBB did not decided in Mr. Atkins favor. They said I might need to get legal assistance. This customer also didn't understand that I was speaking with another breeder and I specifically asked Mr. Atkins what my chances were of getting a puppy out of those 2 litters and he said he didn't see any reason why not short of an actu of God/Mother nature. He knew it was a gift for my husband in July and the timing was perfect. If he had not said that, I would not have sent in a deposit. If he had been clear with me, I would have gone with the other breeder with whom I was speaking. Waiting years for a puppy is fine, unless you are misled. There was no confusion on my part. I took notes with our phone calls. I'm not sure how this person thinks they can speak to my particular situation given they were not a part of the interactions. Dr. Blair

I had, waited for 3 years before I received a Dog from Wyndham Wyndhamian Retrievers Kennel the Hobby of Edward Atkins after agreement to a non refundable deposit and the facts of natural nature ways of Breeding Dogs. This is my 2 dog from this Kennel in which breeds excellent condition Dogs to meet my special needs. Tarzan is an Assistant Service Dog that most people need to understand that they have a lifespan in Service for 8 years yet start at age 2 after training. He also hunts, and is a stud Dog. Mr. Atkins explained the process of breeding, fitting my special needs, and time it would take very clearly. I am surprised by seeing a complaint about the Kennel in the manner it is told due to the lack of it not being factual in my lengthy experience with Mr.Atkins. Presently I am waiting for now a year for another Dog from Wyndham Wyndhamian Retrievers Kennel making this my 3rd Dog from Mr.Atkins. If repeated customers that are satisfied trumps over a confused person Ms Blair that is not taking well the decision of the B.B.B. in favor of Wyndham Wyndhamian Retrievers Kennel the Hobby of Edward Atkins seems to me she cannot take rejection well. I pray that Ripoff .Com post my comments on their website so that others can see freedom of speech is goes both ways, and remove the complaint about Wyndham Wyndhamian Retrievers Kennel who is honest. Violation of Purchase Agreement

I have owned flat coated retrievers and bred litters primarily to supply myself with the best possible hunting retrievers since 1953 (now in my 63rd year) and this person is the first to ever file complaints about my integrity. The dogs are a hobby not a business and this person wished to and agree to submit a none refundable deposit/down payment on March 16, 2014 to have her name added to the waiting list. When contacted in October of 2015 as a breeding had taken place refused to retun my calls and after several days finally sent an email demanding a refund of her none refundeable deposit. Before I could repl;y because I had to review more than 14 hours of telephone calls with this woman and a great many emails, she filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota and then a second complaint with the office of Consumer Affairs of the ND Attorney Generals Office.
She clearly stated that she now does not want a puppy and as per the terms of the purchase agreement forfeited her deposit. The Better Business Bureau after I submitted my orriginal on line listing stating the terms, a list of the more pertinent telephone calls, etc. found her claim to be without basis. My hobby kennel is now rated as A+ by the Better Business Bureau. After discovering this third online complaint in addition to this rebuttal I am searching for any additional misrepresentations aimed at damaging so many years of carefully providing the very best possible puppies that fit the life style and needs of each prospective purchaser. At no time has a numerical list ever been maintained and my waiting list has never reached or exceeded 8 for each gender. The findings of the Better Business Bureau and the many long standing puppy prchasers thst have sought second and third pups over the years speaks volums.
