They promise limited warranties. They promise every car is inspected and checked for mechanical issues before selling. They promise to resolve customer complaints. They promise they are reputable. Until you walk off the lot.
Car #1 literally died 23 miles from the dealership on the side of the road. Nobody would help us get the car back to the dealership. Over $100 lost.
Car #2 literally had mechanical work done the day after brought it home to the cost of $685. They refused to honor their warranty. Now, a few weeks later the radiator is leaking, head gasket is blown and will cost over $2,000 to repair. Have not even put 100 miles on the thing as work is 1.2 miles and furthest distance to go anywhere is 15 miles, but work 6 days a week so not doing any lengthy trips any where.
Reached out to the company for resolution. And the response is silence. Not a word. Not a response. Not an effort to attempt to resolve my problem. Had to file a complaint with BBB. And going to talk to a lawyer about Lemon Law rights. Remarkable that people like this exist only to take advantage of unsuspecting consumers, and their 19 year old kid.

Lemon Law v. As-Is

I work for a law firm, and in fact the lemon law may/may not apply specifically, but the "as-is" law absolutely does apply. Nobody in Illinois or other states can sell a car that is mechanically defective and walk away. There are clauses and provisions afforded to the consumer within reasonable consideration to protect from scammers and sharks. The BBB is helping in this matter as is the Illinois Attorney General's office.

We have reached out to Elizabeth and have helped with towing and currently have car in our shop being fixed. We are helping resolve this issue and in no way ignoring Elizabeth & Donald Whitaker .

Your Choice Auto Sales in Waukegan is BBB accredited, with an A rating and MUST be responsive to complaints to keep that status.
Definitely complain to them. Document exactly what you were supposed to get and what you got and ended up having to put out.
While not a guarantee, chances are they'll knuckle under if BBB considers your situation valid. I know this from experience.

An attorney will inform you that the Illinois Lemon Law does not offer protection for used vehicles sold in Illinois. The BBB has no legal authority and therefore can do nothing for you.
In the future you may want to consider test-driving a vehicle prior to purchase.
