I went for free consultation on March 29th,2010 with Dr Ronan at black hawk plastic surgery in Danville, CA. I wanted to get facelift done but not a weekend or minilift and when I was talking to him I asked him if the short scar facelift he does, is this same as weekend or minilift and he said no, its not the same and then they convinced me to to do a tummy tuck also and said that they are busy next week but they can do it today-tuesday or wednesday and I agreed to do it on Wednesday and asked me to sign the contract papers which I did it without reading it as they told me its just a formality(my bad) as I was in hurry to pick up my son from the school and they asked me to pay $20.000 in advance rt away and again my bad I charged it on my credit card and had no clue what I was getting into as I trusted and beleived them but when I got home around 4pm on March 29th (monday) I searched online short scarlift and it came back with some Dr note that its the same as weekend lift or minilift but just have a different name so I got shocked and suspicious and I called them around 5pm but they got closed at that time, so I called them on (tuesday march 30th) at 9.00 am and told them that I am not ready for surgery rt now and need to do some more research on short scar facelift and want to cancel my surgery for wednesday morning and want my money back but the girl name sandy and Amy said that my money is nonrefundable but we can reschedule another date for you. I got a big shock that my 2hour free consultation is costing me $20,000 and just after 12 hours they are not refunding my $ 20,000 back, I lost trust in them as they miinformed me about the surgery and now refuse to return my money back, I begged them , cried all day to refund my money but they are not doing that so what should I do now? Even when you buy a Car or a home you always have some grace period to back out but my surgery they scheduled in 2days and made me sign the papers, Is there anything can protect me from this kind of fraud? I almost felt like I am going to have a heart attack for so much stress and agony I went through, that money is all my savings for my life, I am not even working rt now, they just brain washed me and I am doomed. PLEASE HELP.

Car analogy

I assume you were addressing the original poster when you question the validity of the 'car analogy'. She is the one who brought it up. She also brought up 'the home analogy'.
It's actually hard to believe the story. Who would use 'all my savings for my life', 'not even working rt now' and has a son AND then spends $20,000.00 for cosmetic surgery regardless of the doctors terminology and her understanding of it.
I expect there is more to this story although it's all we have to base an opinion on.

Why Ronny?

Why Ronny G. do you feel you must defend everyone who receives criticism on here?
Are you the patron saint of Ripoff Report? While I admit some are ruthlessly and unfairly attacked on here for their stupidity you have to admit that many, many of the complaints on this website stem from posters that plunge head first into a situation without reading the fine print.
Is that a reason to bash them? Maybe not but why do you always seem to defend them while ignoring the fact that they would not be in this situation if they used some common sense.

Thank you Mr. Editor..

I am sure that the OP appreciates you re-writing her report to make her sound less self-centered and more of a victim.
And yes when someone puts their "self centered" needs over that of their kids..you better believe that I(and others) are going to call them out on that. If you think that someone who is currently out of a job, supports a child, and uses her life savings to pay for ELECTIVE surgery is using sound judgment..well unfortunately there is not much I can do about that. If you think that someone should stand on the sidelines and not try to bring that to their attention, then again not much I can do about that either.
She seemed more concerned about how she "says" the doctor mis-informed her rather than the money. Because just based on her report she still would have gone through with it if it was the surgery she says she wanted. She also mentioned two procedures, why would she not go through with the tummy tuck? It was only the facelift that seemed to be in "dispute".
Now perhaps she did come to her senses and realize she couldn't really afford it. If that is the case, what would give her more sympathy and a better possibility of her getting her money back? Would it having her say that the doctor "lied", or saying that she messed up? But then if she lied about the doctor, who knows what else she lied about? Unless the OP updates this report we will never know.
As for trying to relate this to a car, it is good that she did that. She had some very big misconceptions. Because she posted that, she could be informed that she was incorrect. Possibly saving for from additional "mistakes" in the future.

What gives with the car analogies?

This is not a car purchase in any way. It is a surgery. At least if you get stuck in a bad car deal, you have a car you can sell and recoup something. We are talking about a persons face here.
Regardless, the poster is concerned that misinformation was given by the "doctor", and now she is forced to either have the surgery she specifically told the "doctor" she didn't want, or lose all her money and have nothing tangible to recoup.
In a way it is the posters fault for the nasty replies, but only because she shared too much information.
The post should have read...
"I elected to have surgery done, I asked the Doctor how he performs the surgery and he told me and it was agreed to. Then I found out the doctor is doing a different type of surgery then we agreed to. I wanted to cancel in that case and was told I can not get a dime back"
The problem here is, certain people are just finding a way to make themselves feel better by coming here to insult and belittle anyone who lodges complaints..coincidentally, on a site designed for consumers to lodge complaints. For some reason, this bothers them.
The less you say in the complaint, the better. Because as I have learned, anything you say will be used against you, and any chance to divert the topic at hand, will be used to do just that.
Why?, I do not know. I can not get into the heads of these types of people and figure out what makes them tick. Personally, I think it is cruelty due to being brought up in a cruel way..people tend to act like their parents, or whomever brought them up..a shame. Or maybe they were abused or picked on a lot? There has to be a reason. Why would anyone make a "hobby" out of making others feel bad, or rubbing their mistakes in thier face for no personal gain other then just making others feel bad or worse then they already do? How is that helping anyone?

Priorities?

You used your life savings for a facelift?
When you buy a car, give them your money and sign a contract you don't have a grace period to give it back. I expect a dealer COULD do that but they would be few and far between. I don't know for certain but I expect you'd have serious problems backing out of a house purchase too.
The three-day right to cancel a contract you're probably thinking about was created to protect consumers from door-to-door salesmen, and other type purchases made away from the standard place of business.
If you're going to spend your life savings and you aren't even working, you need to do some SERIOUS research long before you pay for anything.
Some people priorities are amazing!

Stacey?

Why are you insulting this person? Yes, we all know too much importance is placed on vanity in this culture and most of the world, but what does this have to do with the complaint? You really have no reason to make this person feel even worse, unless you are getting some kind of satisfaction from it? Or does it just make you feel important or better as a person to belittle victims?, Not very nice now, save that for the bank posts.
Of course she is upset that the Doctor misinformed her and then will not even offer a partial refund, much less a full refund. I hope she finds some recourse with the credit card company. I do not know the laws concerning cosmetic surgery, but I do know it is not unusual for there to be a fee for canceling a procedure, but to force a patient to pay the full amount after misinforming them, contract or not, is highly unethical and questionable.

Not believable..

Okay so if I read this correctly, you are currently unemployed and a mother.
In what world do you live that you thought it was even a remotely good idea to think about cosmetic surgery. Sorry if that sounds to rough for you but perhaps the first thing you should do is re-think your priorities.
Is there anything can protect me from this kind of fraud?
- Well this hardly screams "fraud". But there is something to avoid this type of situation in the future...common sense. If you are unemployed elective surgery may not be the best idea. Perhaps if you are that easily swayed you may want to have someone you trust with you before you sign any papers in the future.
Just so you don't get into this mess in the future. You DO NOT have a grace period to back out of a car. Once you sign on the dotted line, the car is YOURS. The one exception to this is that a few states allow you to back out of the purchase of a USED car. But this is in limited cases and sometimes may require an additional payment. The same really goes for a house, but if you get through the entire house buying experience and only decide to change your mind after you "closed", again you have other issues you may want to really think about.

You use your savings for a facelift and tummy tuck yet you have no job?? Please - my mother's facelift cost about this and she got a discount! You should have saved your money and forgot about your vanity!
Most surgeons require payment up front for services related to plastic surgery and I know this because I have a plastic surgeon
Should have used that money on your child

Why don't you call your credit card and tell them they they swindle you into paying in advance for a surgery and gave you false informatin. Call your credit card right away. I went onto the internet and found minilift, short scar lift, or midface lift, and many other names or the same surgery called by different names. Too many innocent victims are being lied to . 20K is a lot of money and I can understand that especially when you are not even walking. That is so low of them to do that............
