I just took possesion of a 2011 CTS with only 58K miles on it. It was owned and gingerly driven by a 92 year old who has since passed away. I got the car at 53K miles, and put on 5K miles in 5 months. The engine has a 100K mile warranty on it. At 58K miles, there was a 'misfire that detonated in the cylinder and cracked the cylinder wall, rendering the engine as totaled'. Keep in mind that this engine has a 100K mile warranty on it. Even though I'm over on 'years' for the car; I'm well below the 100K mile limit for the warranty. The new engine is costing $13K, and the value on the car might be $18K -- resulting in this car being 'totaled' at 58K miles. It was a $52K car, and it's TOTALED in 58K miles due to inferior quality and an auto manufacturer not standing behind their products. Keep in mind that Cadillac went from 12th ranking (out of 25) in the JD Powers 'overall quality' rankings to 17th out of 25 brands in 1 year !! They jumped 5 slots in 1 year for BAD QUALITY !! Pretty soon, they'll be up there with Yugo. For anyone contemplating purchasing a Caddy, look at the other alternatives. This brand and their support is no where worth what they charge for their cars. Total garbage of a car.....

You're either a total moron or you work for GM !! A car is not meant to last more than 7 years??? Are you kidding me? This car had 58K miles on it, and the engine blew. And you're saying that this is normal? What world do you live in where it's acceptable for an engine, regardless of brand, is totaled in 58K miles? I wouldn't expect this in a Yugo, let alone a GM product. Have fun buying a new car every 7 years, regardless of mileage. The car dealers must love you.....

I'm not sure why you think a 10 year old "luxury" car (it's a GM, so that's a relative term) is worth anything at all. The more expensive the car, the less it is worth when it's 10 years old, at least for mass-produced models. $50k cars are designed to reliably last 7 years. And this applies to everything -- GM, BMW, Mercedes, etc. Anything more than that, and you are on borrowed time. The cost of parts does not justify doing anything but the most minor of repairs. And low-mileage cars aren't a better deal than high-mileage ones. An engine with 120k on it is more likely to get to 250k than an engine with 50k on it.
And no, the quality of a Cadillac is not any better than the quality of a Chevy Cavalier. They are made in the same plants and designed by the same people. The main difference is the number of bells and whistles, and they don't add reliability; rather the opposite.
