While attempting to use my Macbook laptop on July 27, 2014, a small window appeared claiming that I had a problem and should call them, I believe at 1 888 314 0202 or possibly 1 888 676 8695 for assistance.  My computer was disabled in that I could not get around that pop up message/warning regardless of my efforts so, panicking, I called.  I was assigned customer account number 85260714.

I was connected to "Victor" who took over remote control o fmy laptop and showed me what were reportedly IP addresses that had hacked in to my system.  I strongly suspect that those were either ficticous or theirs.  I was I would/could have screen grabbed them; they all began with 94.(XX.XX.XX).  He claimed that I had no firewall and that was the problem and convinced me to allow him to "fix" the issues and install a firewall for $199.00.  Feeling that I was a hostage to them I was compelled to comply.  He also then tried to convince me to buy more "virus protection" for $99, which I refused as I already had such.

Well, more problems began immediately: e.g. I could no longer access any links apperaing in emails such as for LiveNation(concerts) or an American Express survey not to mention many more.  This significantly interferred with some critical business I was conducting.  Other weird things also started to happen like pop up windows while I was simply reading emails, or trying to access an embedded link.  This caused a message stating that I had a pop up blocker that needed to be disabled.  I went into settings and did this, I also saw that there was no firewall activated.

Also, some icons were missing; e.g."Downloads" that had always appeared at the bottom of my screen.

I called back, I think on the 28th, and was connected with a "Josephine"; last name not given.  She took over my computer "to fix the issues" and over two hours later I returned and she was still in control.  I was upset so called her to cease her actions and release her control.  It took some effort as she was reluctant but ultimately, as I became more insistent she did.

My next step was to try and turn off the pop up blocker, which I did to no avail.  The problem persisted. I called customer satisfaction to complain and they left a voice mail (I had gone out) to call "Sara".  I did ASAP and received a voice message that I was the next call and estimated wait time was 15 seconds.  This message replayed for over 32 minutes when I hung up.

"Sara" called me back on July 30 and tried desperately to allow them to fix it but I told her I had no interest in doing business with them, that I believed they hacked into my computer and infected it so I would be forced to call them and be subject to their scam.  She finally agreed to refund my entire $199.00 but insisted I call "your bank" to rescind my dispute.  I tried to tell her that it was not a bank but an American Express credit card and that I had called AMEX but their policy is that disputes cannot be filed until the charges are posted, which as of this morning, they had not.

"Sara"stated that she would call me back at 11 am today (July 31, 2014) but as of this moment; 11:45 am, there has been no call.

Now I will have to incur the expense of having my Macbook serviced by Apple or other reputable company that is entirely their fault as the unit had been working just fine.
