On November 29, I applied for an apartment online through Maple Avenue's website. A leasing consultant, Christina, promptly emailed me back saying the apartment I had applied for was for students only. Huh? Nowhere on the site nor application did it say anything about student living units. But okay. She stated that she could refund my money, or help me find another unit. I chose the refund. She then said that I would receive a check back in the mail in 2 weeks. Check?! 2 weeks??? I had JUST paid with my debit card, so I don't understand why the simple click of a button wouldn't suffice! With Christmas just around the corner, I didn't have time to wait around 2 weeks. But so I did...
Emails and phone calls later, here we are. Over a month later and I'm still out $215. The customer service toward me has been absolutely horrid to say the least. I even had an associate hang up on me after I asked her to overnight the check as soon as it came in! That's the least that wench could've done! Not a good way to deal with a customer who's money you just STOLE. Will be filing a small- claims suit against this company for my refund, and for the $75 late fee I will now incur because rent is due (at my new place) tomorrow. Will also warn everyone in Dallas and online about this company's shady practices.

Unfortunately not, the process wouldn't be any quicker going through my bank. They don't do immediate temporary refunds... they do a 30 day investigation, and only then decide if you get your money back or not. Believe me, that was my first choice.

Why not dispute the charge?

Since you paid with a debit card, go to your bank and file a dispute. This is much easier and quicker than messing around with a small claims action.
