Most people who know how to take care of their checking accounts are not bank employees, but everyday people who cannot afford to throw good money out the window. I've had a checking account since I was 15 and that was many many moons ago..Not Sachs here at all, just knowledgeble. right now I'm actually one of the 15 million who is unemployed.. and making darn sure no money goes out the window.People who has been there and done that are the real people in the know. You do not have to be a bank employee to know about banking.Yea some of them know alot, that is why 16 banks has failed so far in 2010

"So I would leave the account as it stands and just make sure next time , you have money inthe bank for debits coming thru."

What a brilliant suggestion!  Did you come up with that all by yourself or did you get it from the Goldman Sachs handbook?  I have one overdraft and get hit with a 950% charge and you suggest avoiding overdrafts.   I never would have thought of that.  Thank you.  Do you work for a bank?

Stopping overdrafts

AUTHOR: unknown - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, January 31, 2010

You had asked your bank to put a stop to allowing money to go thru when there is no money in your account, and the bank says that they do if for courtsey in case of emergency, well it would be your  luck that your mortgage/rent payment happens to be that emergecny that was going thru..Not alone would the bank still charge and overdraft fee, plus also whoever you wrote the check to may also charge you a fee. So I would leave the account as it stands and just make sure next time , you have money in the bank for debits coming thru.

I have asked my bank to stop that and they did. I never needed it anyway and also overdraft protection..Totally useless to me.And a few seconds later and a click of a button it was done.I don't know who you asked, but I would go to the bank branch and ask if they would do it for me. Customer serviced at the 800 # can only do so much and probably send you to the branch anyway.  Also if you have free checking, that may soon stop in Febuary when the new laws take effect. Thanks to all who overdraft, my understanding was that the overdrafts was paying for all the free checking accounts out there.
