On April 16th, 2011, we suffered a substantial loss due to a house fire and was displaced from April to December.  However, the construction and repairs are still not completed.  I am very familiar with construction and completely dissatisfied with the quality of workmanship.  I have made numerous complaints about the unsatisfactory work as well as work that should have been done.  It was evident that the contractor, Frank Fuccinella were not experienced and demanded another construction crew to continue with the repairs.
 
The fire had started in the master bedroom which is in the basement.  According to the insurance worker's adjustor's packet, my entire basement as well as the first floor kitchens, and second floor bathroom were to be demolished and refinished.  The only rooms that were gutted was the master bedroom, bathroom, and partial laundry room.  Due to the intensity of the fire, the beams were structurally unsafe and were to be replaced.  The charred beams were left and sistered together with new beams. 
 
Met Life has paid out approximately $228,000 which is the replacement cost value for repairs.  As I had mentioned we were displaced and living across the street from our home.  This gave me the opportunity to check progress on a daily basis.  We have been dealing with the contractors, continually disputing the quality of work as well as work that was never completed.  This dispute has been ongoing without any agreement towards the credits due us.   The contractor has so far received approximated four checks totalling $213,000 which were deposited for payment without my endorsement.  I've requested the remaining proceeds of approximately $11,000 to be withheld since this would confirm completion.
 
On a daily basis I am reminded of the horrors of the fire as a result of the strong odors remaining, lack of soundproofing and the inconvenience of accommodating the contractors disrupting the households of not only myself but my tenants as well.  I am exhausted mentally, physically and emotionally.   Without the credit proceeds of approximately $45,000, I am at a standstill with the remaining repairs as well as repairs to correct the previous contractor's work.
