I worked approximatly 4 jobs with this company. The owner (Mike Stuart) shows and sells one type of window and delivers another. This company purchases windows from ABC supply in Chattanooga TN. Easy enough to investigate. Two crew leaders, Michael and Travis confirmed this bait and switch tactic to me verbally and some customers did ask questions about this. One customer, 82 yr old man with heart problems, told Mike he could not install the windows he brought. Mike told customer "he needed to get out of the way and let him do his job". At one point he stated, "I am going to intall them". Also, improper instalation procedures for replacement windows including no insulation or shims (this can also be investitstigated easily enough). A few customers got really mad, a few didn't seem to know the difference. They have a BBB A+ rating. How? This site is needed and I hope action is taken on behalf of the customers who have been taken "Advantage" of. I no longer work for the company.

I did not file the FTC report. I was going to that day and decided not to. I did not contact state licensing board about permits either. I chomped into this thing like a pit. The Spinneys did file a report and the facts are there with pics and Mr. Spinney's statement.

here is a link to Spinney's report: you may have to copy and paste

I actually tried to get my report removed, but could not. I was truthful in the report. Mr. Stuart might have worked things out with the Spinney's, I don't know. The Spinney's tried to get their report removed as well. I told the Spinney's when report was filed, it is permanent and can't be removed. Whatever the situation, I hope the outcome is good for all.

Bait and switch cover-up? FTC Report filed.

AUTHOR: MarvWillis - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, December 13, 2010

Bait and Switch cover up? ABC stated today Ply Gem manufactures Titan Windows exclusively for advantage windows and doors. Interesting. After talking to a local sales rep a few days ago from Ply Gem who stated she never heard of Titan windows. Advantage does sell a lot of windows. Whether or not this (Titan brand) is just now being put into motion or there has always been a Titan window manufactured exclusively for Advantage is beside the point (maybe/depends). The fact Mr. & Mrs Spinney's contract states Titan PG 40 series and the window sticker says PLY GEM CONTRACTOR SERIES 2000 is hard to cover up. Ply GEM CONTRACTOR SERIES 2000 is available to the public and not an exclusive window. Filed an FTC report. Investigation? Who's gambling? Roll!

FTC FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION

Ply Gem windows. Check out your window stickers folks. I've seen the pro and contractor used by advantage. Contractor grade? Call any supplier, it's the least expensive grade.

Here's a link. In case it is removed, I'm adding a pic as well. These are the windows shown at Ply Gem for state of TN.

"bait and switch?" Yes or No? They are branding/masking a product that is inferior with bad reviews with a fictitious name and making it un-researchable ...

AUTHOR: MarvWillis - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, December 12, 2010
They are branding/masking a product that is inferior (with bad reviews on-line) with a fictitious name and making it for the consumer. There is no information on-line concerning "Titan Windows". Advantage sells Ply Gem windows. Not listed at ABC supply (web site) in Chattanooga. But listed at ABC supply in NE (pic attached). I'm assuming the "PG" in "Titan PG 40 series" as presented in contract,  stands for "Ply Gem". There is a Titan Windows & Doors in Chicago, but this looks like an company, not a manufacturing company. Their web address is www.titanwindows.com/services.

So is this bait and switch? Seems to be. Mint magazine add states "Titan". Not a researchable product. They show the ply gem mags, but still list "Titan PG40" in contract. Some answers?

What makes this worse, is no one seems to care for the customer. The non-functionality of these windows is pretty obviouse. If you have purchased these windows, you need to have all window sashes removed and replaced for evaluation. They are hard to replace as stated in earlier reports. These windows have also been reported not to last. I have also found BBB info on Ply Gem that is not good.

Whatever the case, Advantage does not produce their own windows. They use Ply Gem. So if you're reading the mint magazine on your initial assessment, beware!

Mint Magazine states "Titan" windows as product. I called Ply - Gem and talked to 3 different people who never heard of Titan windows. I also talked with a local sales rep.

Mint magazine add states "R-25 insulation added to the frames". While the frames might provided this extra insulation. They do not have added R-25 insulation. One customer I know of was under that impression. I've also included of pic of a Ply-Gem diagram to prove this.

Mint Mag add for Advantage windows also stated "25" titanium infused". Still haven't found anything on that. Hmm?

I would also like to say I'm not sure if Advantage ever used a different window. I was under the impression from a neighbor of an Advantage customer they use to because he (neighbor) stated so. He (neighbor) had some windows put in his house using Advantage. He also stated they use to use insulation.

Permit?? I've checked one house and found no permit was ever filed. Since 2004 according to the permit office, only 2 permits have been filed by Advantage Windows.

In case your wondering, the best way to get accurate references from a company is to check with the permit office and find your own references. Advantage Windows & Doors only has two on file in Chattanooga. Why?

Chattanooga TN Advantage Windows customers of Mike Stewart - Spinney's Step forward and make statement. Mr. Spinney is having major heart surgery this morning at app 9AM.

AUTHOR: MarvWillis - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 10, 2010

TO: Mike Stewart key words; possible law suite, complaints, ratings, review, chattanooga TN, TN, GA, Advantage windows, litigation.

I contacted Mike with this proposal yesterday around 4PM and decided to post it here for proper documenting purposes. It is now 4:30 AM. Dec. 10th, 2010.

After posting to this site (ripoffreport.com) Mike left me three voice mail messages the following day. He was very upset and confrontational. After receiving these voice mails, I went to talk with Mr. and Mrs Spinney's house. Mr. Spinney is the senior citizen I was referring to in initial report. I had not contacted any customers until a law suite seemed inevitable. As of yet, I have only contacted the Spinney's. I will only contact other customers if law suite is pursued by Mr. Mike Stewart owner of advantage windows. Mike informed me in his voicemail that he has special software and uses it every day searching for postings regarded him and his company. That's why this has escalated so quick. I do feel threatened. The Spinney's have a ripoff response to be posted.

I have been asked to present this restitution request/offer on behalf of the Spinney's. The Spinney's only wish to be treated with respect and not put under any undue stress. I am doing this to help them out because Mr. Spinney is going to have major heart surgery tomorrow, and was in congestive heart failure (something like that, ask them) when the windows from your company were being installed. I am also doing this to back my initial ripoff report. The timing has moved rather quickly due to Mike Stewart's quick response to ripoff report. The windows are not installed properly and do not function properly. When I say, not installed properly, It is my opinion that since sash removal/replacement issue was brought to Mike Stewarts attention and he had to make a special trip to address the problem, there should have been a solution that remedied the problem. He did send another crew leader named Michael out to give Travis some pointers. But the problem still remains. The Spinney's do not wish to have windows replaced due to health reasons and would rather live with the fact the sashes are hard to replace once removed and a professional would no doubt have to be called out to get them put back in. They have decided a window cleaner is the way to go. I realized the seriousness of my initial report and would never have posted something that would proven me to be a liar. I'm not stupid. It's also easy enough to ask customers if insulation was used (especially the ones who complained). It's also easy enough to remove a few window caps to check for insulation and re-install.

Windows were not insulated properly. No insulation was provided for job and 2 cans of foam were delivered after Mr. Spinney requested the windows be insulated. This was my first job working with Advantage sub contractor Travis. No pink insulation foam was used or provided. After watching videos on line, pink house insulation seems to be the method of choice for professionals. With the experience I've had in vinyl siding doing some window replacement. I had used spray foam at one time, but was instructed not to use it, by a reputable contractor, because of swelling causing problems with window function.

The Spinneys may be negotiable, but everything listed is true (including the fact that the windows do not function properly) and any window tech would have trouble putting those sashes back in. Just ask yourself this -- do you want to go back out and remove all the sashes and then put them back in to show that they do work properly, under possible court room speculation? The fact it took you approximately 30 minutes to put the sashes back in yourself when me or Travis could not do it should have tipped you off the windows you are now selling had a problem. The fact is, you used them on 4 more jobs and far as I now, you are still using them.

If you prefer, we can go the other route (court) per your voice mail messages. Let me say, I prefer not to pursue this, and do not wish to put your business in the spotlight any further. I can back my report. I am not doing this for monetary gain. I do not wish to gain anything out of this except peace of mind. If you do attempt to sue me, I will counter sue. If you want my house, we'll sign it over to you and throw in the furniture for free. It will cost you more to move it than it's worth. You rent the Uhaul, I'll load it for free. You would be doing us a big favor since we are about to go into foreclosure and we now owe more than the appraisal. I'll also sign over the car; we owe more on that than it's worth, plus it needs work. I'll seriously let you take over payments if you wish. We bought it from a car lot and are paying way more than what it's worth, and it has seriously devalued since being wrecked. I don't bluff. You want them -- call me. Don't need a lawyer for that. Let me see.... my kids have all grown now and my youngest is 18. They are very independent, having poor parents, and will manage just fine. So I apologize, we've done given away their shoes they've outgrown to the goodwill. If you want to prove that I am stupid, I'll be the first to confess I'm an uneducated man, and don't consider myself to be highly intelligent. I'm definitely not a lawyer and not qualified to handle the legal aspects of dealing with telling the truth and blowing the whistle on your, well, we'll call it over-sites for now. Hopefully this will be addressed. I know from customers and neighbors of customers you are no longer using the same windows, so hopefully you will see there is a problem that needs to be addressed with functionality. I do know what the problem is and why the sashes are hard to put back in once removed. I'm just getting by the best I can. I realize you are very upset and your 3 voice mails were in desperation to get this ripoffreport removed. So I will hold off posting voice mails for people to hear. This is a free country and I will post the whole truth and nothing but the truth. So where we go from hear is not up to me. I decided to post this restitution request so it is documented instead of sending a notarized letter.

Last note, at this point, I haven't posted any more reviews. But I believe I have a right to leave as many reviews as I wish. I know how to use the internet well and I will utilize it to the fullest and point every review I leave to this ripoff report. I also know how to search and don't need special software to do so. I browsed for a minute and found 30+ sites to leave reviews. This is not a threat or a bluff. This is a reality Mike.

To tell the Truth -

To tell the truth and be accused of slander is a common response. Surely the only thing to gain is not a cruel man's wrath. Not all men are crooked intentionally and some good men can find themselves overlooking the needs and voices of others. May the truth be addressed and the one who wonders blessed. Let the truth stir a conflict that promotes change for the better. Surely there is more than wrath. Mercy rejoices against judgment. The merciful shall obtain mercy!
