I ordered a book on April 16, 2008 for a class starting on May 6th. Alibris claims book was shipped on April 17th with estimated arrival date of April 29th. When I contacted them via e-mail they replied the book could take up to 30 days and to contact them after that timeframe. I have since contacted my Discover Card. Discover credited my account and are investigating this issue. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY......RIPOFF

Truth hurts?

AUTHOR: Kathy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 26, 2008

The truth of the matter is I thought this was a forum for consumers to file a legitimate complaints. I had a legitimate complaint. I contacted the seller, contacted the company (acting as agent for the seller), and contacted my Discover Card. Discover issued temporary credit and after investigation, Alibris.com issued permanent credit. So, as you can see, I was not looking to lay blame on anyone; just receive merchandise in the manner in which it was promised.

I can't help it if you are a person with nothing better to do with their time than filing rebuttals to consumer complaints you do not have all the facts on.

You claim you are a person trying to help? Excuse me; the last line of your original rebuttal states; "Next time, plan better, and please, stop blaming everyone else for your mistakes."

Evidently not my mistake as this matter was resolved.

Excuse me??? I'm not an employee

What's your problem? I'm just trying to help out here. I'm sorry you can't deal with someone who can speak and write well, like a professional. The information is right there on their web site for everyone to see.

The truth hurts sometimes.

You wish I was an employee, so you could have some sort of convenient excuse or someone or something to blame besides yourself.

Comments on rebuttal

AUTHOR: Kathy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 25, 2008

Interesting that this company rebuttal was filed three days after Alibris.com sent me an apology and issued full credit. Discover card did in fact side with me on this issue. The book was indeed received on May 19, 2008 and contained a postage label showing it was shipped on May 14, 2008. This was shipped almost a month after Alibris.com claimed the book had been shipped.
I informed Alibris.com the book was received after I ordered from another source. Their response: I was issued full credit and advised to return the book marked "Shipment Refused." The book has been returned and my account has been fully credited.

Maybe the members of their customer service department should have had all the facts in this matter before filing a rebuttal to my original complaint.

Again, buyer beware with this company; especially college students who order in good faith. Faith being the operative word; the book in question is Encountering The Old Testament History.

#1 Consumer Comment

Not a ripoff, Alibris was the good guy here, Alibris was not the problem

AUTHOR: Chex - (U.S.A.)

Sorry. but you should not have ordered something as important as class books so close to the class starting date. The ESTIMATED arrival time was April 29th. You took a gamble that the books would arrive by the earliest possible estimated time... and you lost. You should have allowed up to 30 days, which is what Alibris told you.

You're incapable of reading what you sign up for, and you'll probably be back on RipoffReports complaining about the next thing you buy without reading the contract.

Look on the Alibris Help/Shipping page at http://www.alibris.com/help/shipping :

"# Items ship from thousands of independent sellers or from an Alibris warehouse.
# Shipping methods are selected during checkout.
# Expedited shipping is available.
# Items from sellers outside the U.S. or Canada will take longer to reach you."

There's a whole HUGE PAGE with easy-to-read charts of information about shipping methods and estimated times, and every single one says this at the bottom:

"To contiguous U.S. addresses
*may be delayed in transit up to 30 calendar days
To Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. protectorate, P.O. box, and APO/FPO addresses
**may be delayed in transit up to 45 calendar days"

The ONLY way to be sure you'd get your stuff in time, without the possibility of it laying around in some warehouse waiting for a full load, or some other problem (which Alibris has no control over) would have been to use 2-day air or 1-day air. And that ONLY applies if the item is shipping from Alibris. It's not available if the item is shipping from an independent seller, because, again, Alibris has little control over what some outside agency does.

Next time, plan better, and please, stop blaming everyone else for your mistakes.

BTW, Discover may (and probably will) end up siding with Alibris on this issue after their investigation, so be prepared for that.
