This company, "alltrails.com" took over the original topographical map site "topo.com" and basically stole / erased all map credits that were purchased from topo.com.  I contacted them about this and was basically told "tough crap about losing your previous credits from the site we took over but you can BUY a subscription from us."

So, in short, they've ripped me off and apparently don't give a crap about customer service, as they could have easily extended me a few map credits to make up for the ones they stole, I would have gotten a few pdf maps and then I'd be writing praises on review sites instead of warning people about this ripoff company who ruined a great topographical map site.

To add insult to injury, this company sends SPAM and gives you no option to change your email address.

Way to go scumbags.

What about this confuses you?

Wow.  The OP of this report is a real piece of work.

" None of the sales spooge emitted by alltrails.com has done a single thing to obtain my previous map credits nor does it put those maps in my hands - all I'm getting is " buy a subscription." "

If you'd actually read the "sales spooge", you'd know that the company you paid to obtain your worthless "credits" went out of business and took your money with them.   The only real ripoff is that topo.com took your money and didn't deliver.   Now what has that got to do with the company you're now complaining about?  Nothing.    I should add that another ripoff might have been from whoever was responsible for teaching you basic life skills.   You gave money to topo.com, they are gone with your money.  Instead of trying to malign an unrelated company that does exist, perhaps you should just grow up and realize that when a company goes belly up while holding your money, it's gone.

" Like I would trust this company with my credit card information after they ripped me off for pre-existing credits! "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice shame on me." "

The more you post, the more you make yourself look like a complete doofus.

If you think anyone is going to take your report seriously, think again.   It's clear to anyone with basic reading comprehension that you have never done any business with the company you're complaining about, hence it is not possible that they have ripped you off.

They auto-renew subscriptions and you know how hard THAT is to stop with any bank. If alltrails.com chooses to keep slapping renewals on you, you're just plain screwed as your credit card will tell you they can't do anything about it and you have to get the subscription service to stop it (remember AOL anyone??)

And the reason we purchased single map credits is because we did not WANT a year's worth of unlimited maps - we wanted a few specific maps inexpensively!

Buyers beware.

Topo.com Transition

AUTHOR: alltrails - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 20, 2012

As part of its partnership with National Geographic, AllTrails has been helping with the closure and transition of it's members from the Topo.com website and TOPO! Explorer software. Unfortunately because Topo.com was shut down, the ability to download individual maps is longer available.

National Geographic sent Topo.com users two separate emails (see attached) well in advance of the transition alerting them of the shut down and providing instructions on how to use their existing map credits to download maps before the site was shut down and redirected to AllTrails.com. To help ease the transition AllTrails is offering all Topo.com users a significant discount, up to 60% or $30 off the regular retail price of AllTrails Pro.

To clear up the report above, AllTrails did not "take over" Topo.com, it was shut down and AllTrails has stepped in to help provide users with an alternative to be able to access National Geographic TOPO! maps. One advantage of AllTrails Pro vs. the credits previously offered at Topo.com is that AllTrails Pro members can view, print, and download an unlimited number of National Geographic TOPO! maps.

Both the AllTrails and National Geographic customer service teams have been working day & night to help customers through the transition and we welcome the opportunity to speak with any customers that might need help using their existing TOPO! Explorer software or the AllTrails.com website.
