I purchased a Kindle Fire 14 months ago.  Due to our hectic life, I only had the opportunity to read three books, before it froze.  I kept the Kindle in a protective case in my night stand. It is clearly a manufacturing defect.  Amazon.com's only solution was to sell me another one at "a deep discount"; which was the full retail price.

Digital is not forever

AUTHOR: MochaG - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, November 19, 2013

I can never understand those who think that an electronic device should last forever even though you never touch it. Hardware failure could easily occur with any device which is either extremely heavily used or extremely lightly used (similar to cars, may be).

In this case, the device has not been used for a long time (sitting for 3-month period doing nothing is a very long time), so certain hardware which requires electricity to be fired from time to time may go bad. Of course, there is no excuse for an expensive device to go bad this way (or this short period of time); however, it is the nature of modern electronic device nowadays. One reason, I believe, is that the manufacturers do not want their products to function forever (and they know the average life time which is a couple years) or they would go bankrupt. Besides, many younger generation expect new products all the time, so failing product would motivate them to get a new one (to show off).

If you are not sure about your usage on an electronic device, do NOT buy an expensive or the newest model. You may lose your money on it easily when something goes bad.

Extended Warranty?

I assume they had you try the reset procedures - hold power for about 10 seconds. I think there is also a complete reset.  Maybe you did that too?

Kindle's are normally very reliable. Almost everyone in our family has had them for years with no issues.

Stick with it, it's a great device.

No, I don't work for them, I'm just a satisfied customer.
