America Puppy Club, sold me a defective puppy Middletown, New Jersey New Jersey
*Consumer Comment: Put down?
My canine companion passed away in May,2008--This February I was so ready for a new puppy-but saw no breeder ads that appealed to me,so I went to this place. I bought a schnoodle that was soooo cute and playful I was in heaven. Untill I took him to a vet--he has a luxating patella-a common problem for small dogs---so why didn't their vet find it????
I'm still in shock. I haven't even contacted them yet-i already love this little guy-and don't want to give him up to be put down(killed)---If only I had researched them first, I would not have bought the pup.--live and learn.

As you said, it is a common problem for MANY small dogs (sometimes maybe better to expect than be surprised). Can occur over time. Can occasionally occur from trauma. How did the one vet grade your dog? Other vets may grade it differently or ALSO not believe it is there if they have no prior knowledge or maybe even if they do. Alot do fine with weight management and limiting things like jumping on and off the furniture. Sometimes that can have less negative side effects for the dog than the surgeries, it depends. Why did their vet not find it? Maybe it wasn't there. Maybe they grade differently (6 different vets can mean 3 to 6 different grades and opinions on some occasions, a lot actually). Do you have a tile floor at home on which maybe the pup still slips alot? Does the pup go on and off the furniture? Your pup is still growing it sounds like, did the vet think things might tighten up over time as the puppy grows? Did they say wait and see what happens? Usual recommendations are either weight and exercise management OR surgery if severe or in a larger heavier dog, NOT death if things do not improve.
Why would he be killed (assuming that it is covered, which varies on alot of things when it comes to LP's)? Independent research and talking to a lot of people (who are very familiar with LP's) is definantly in order. You may also have a time limit in which to contact them so I would do that. You'll probably need the actual records as well. Also reread your contract. I would definantly talk some more with my vets. Please keep us posted. *just my opinions*
