this is the worst insurance company to deal with I advise anyone who has insurance with them to move to another company. do not depend on this company when you need them, i have a claim in with this company and after I done all and everything they asked me do do (such as send in documentation and proof of ownership, first they take 3 weeks to look over your claim and then when they do contact you they question your documentation, of proof of ownership, so it is evident that they have no intentions on paying the claim in the first place, I have never been treated in this manner and I am so very disgusted with this company,

Shared Pain and Can Relate

AUTHOR: Brb28054 - ()

POSTED: Saturday, March 30, 2013

I Filed a claim with this company March 2, 2013. Our home was burglarized while at the Hospital. Police came out, did a report and determined someone or more, came through a vacant apartment, through the attic.

At first, the claims rep was very pleasing to speak with. Informed us the claim takes about 14-20 days to process once they have received all documentation. The first day, we sent a police report, a statement what happened, photos and a property inventory list they requested.

The rep explained they received that information and to please allow about a week to process it and submit to her supervisor for approval. After 3 weeks, she once again asked if I could send her a couple photos individually instead of a collage.  I emailed her that information and in the email, asked her to please let me know she received the email, often emails get sent to spam mail and I wanted to be sure she got it. As well, to please let me know if those photos would suffice and to let me know if she needed anything else.

Same day, she emailed me saying she got the photos and to please allow more time for investigation. I complained it was going into the 4th week and they are still requesting documents Ive already sent! The adjuster also asked me to get an updated police report. Stated that everything reported missing needed to be in the police report. So once again we had to go to the police report for a revised report.

After complaining, and in the 4th week, was told the claim has now been turned over to their SIU ( special investigation Unit). I researched that and found they submit claims to that unit they suspect of fraud!!!! I guess this was in retaliation for me complaining.

Ive read insurance companies should report a claim to SIU during the onset if red flags are raised versus waiting weeks which i guess is a delay tactic.

A couple days ago, i Received a letter in the mail from the adjuster requesting the same photos we sent twice already, be sent again and stated they needed individual photos or documentation of proof for each item missing. ( we had over 300 DVD's taken from a storage bin and do not have individual photos of each dvd we had).

That letter was dated March 22, the same day we spoke to the adjuster on the phone and she requested "a few individual photos" in which we emailed to her and she acknowledged she was in receipt and didnt request anything further. That letter was dated March 22, but stamped/mailed on March 26th. This is the 3rd time they have requested the SAME photos. This is unreasonable to continue to request the same information already sent previously. Being she typed the letter on March 22, but mailed on March 26, cannot help but feel, they are continuing to delay the claim.

Today is exactly a month since the burglary and no closer to a resolution. It would be one thing to tell us, "ok here we are, A,B and C will happen", versus every week requesting the same information, then, going into the 4th week tell us the claim had been turned over to the SIU investigator ( which by the way, was 5 days ago and have not been contacted by the investigator ).

I have filed a complaint with Florida Insurance commission and my states Insurance commissioner, BBB. I have read, and this much could be wrong, but usually when these things happen, consumer needs to prepare to receive soon, a denial letter.. My attorney is on stand by should this happen. In their policy, they do stipulate a mandatory arbitration clause as opposed to a court civil suit, however, if they deny the claim in  bad faith handling, they have then failed to honor the policy and are fare game.

As a customer of Assurant I lost most of my electronics during a power surge. My experience has been ok so far. Like most I have had the chance to read some of the reports but my experience has been very different. Spoke with Robert and Kaneisha(spelling may be off) but they helped me a lot today in moving foward to getting my claim taken care of fast. The young lady I'm dealing with was very understanding and concerned about my claim. My customer service experience has been great.
