American Income Life Insurance advertises on monster.com Ignore any interview calls from AIL - save your time and effort. Framingham Massachusetts

This message is for all the unsuspecting job seekers like myself. Especially people who are new to this country and not aware of such organised corporate scams.

I had recently posted my resume on Monster.com. I do not have authorization to work in the US without a sponsorship and had mentioned this on my monster posting.
I was quite surprised and also excited when suddenly i got a mail from the State Director of American Income Life telling me that he had seen my resume on the interent and how he felt that he should get in touch with me immediately as there are several openings for outstanding individuals like me in his company.

There were a few things that struck me as strange:

1. The mail was not personalised - it was a general mail that came to my yahoo BULK mail id (which is generally for spam mails)

2. The fact that i received an interview call despite the fact that I need sponsorship was strange especially in a bad eceonomy.

However, as I had previous experience in marketing in an insurance company, i thought that may be there is some connection. So I called them up and left a message with the receptionist. She said that someome from the company would call me to fix an appointment.

So the next day, I got a call from a guy called Bill DeGoorg. He asked me if I had experience in a "supervisory role" before and said that i seemed like the kind of person they need. He fixed my time for an interview the next day. I was told to dress in business attire and carry a "clean" copy of my resume.

I was excited about the deal and dreamed of starting work again soon. I read up on insurance, saw the comnay website and what their business of selling "supplemental life insurance" means.

However, in another search about the company on, it threw up how some poeple had had bad experiences with this company,and about their interview experiences. I was a bit apprehensive after that and not sure If i was doing the right thing. But I still felt that i should give it a shot.

The next day i started early on my long tiresome journey to Framingham. It took my 2 hours to reach their office by commuter rail and a lot of walking!

When i reached I saw a lot of people sitting in the reception and waiting to get interviewed. It seemed so close to what i had seen on the insurance forum description. People dressed formally and of all ages- young and old. The receptionist took the resumes. People from the company would take the resume and take one person inside at a time. Somehow it seemed like the whole company was just spending its time interviewing people!!

Anyhow...I was called in by a lady called Darleen Cadet. I had just run into her a while ago in their office restroom and she seemed nice. She took me into a room bare with just a table and 2 chairs and some funny cutouts of what looked like scorpions or lobsters stuck on the wall. She had a laptop in front of her with some presentation that gave some spiel on the company and how much money it made in a short time. Then she circled my insurance experience on the resume and i thought she might ask me something. But no! She asked me some general questions like:

1. on a scale of 1-10 how coachable are you
2. on a scale of 1-10 how competitive are you
3. What are the 3 important priorities for you now

That's all - the interview was over and she said that she would like me to meet the State Director tomorrow morning. Hello!!! Thats all. 2 hours of travel for a 2 minute interview.

I asked her the following:

1. Do you know i am not authorised to work in the US without sponsorship. She said "Oh really!!" That's how much they knew about my background before calling me in

2. What is the job profile?. She said..ya that's something David Brister the state director will be able to tell you.

I was told when I was asked to come for the interview that i would be meeting a senior management staff and the HR Director. So where were they? Then I told her that i had come from really far and don't have a car right now so can the State director meet me now. She said he was very busy and it won't be possible. If he is meeting everyone to explain what the job is...then how busy can he really be? Anyhow...I walked out confused, unimpressed and let down.

I met another lady who had come for an interview on my way out and she had similar feelings about the place. Infact we both had such diverse backgrounds and the funny thing was we were being interviewed for the same job. Ironically what the job exactly was was never told to us. She was also asked to come in tomorrow. Actually I guess everyone is.

I called in later to cancel my appointment because I felt that this is really not going to lead to anything and was a waste of my time. The receptionist again told me that the HR Director, Sara, would get in touch with me.
Sure enough Sara called. But luckily i missed her call. Her voice mail said that since i missed the group interview, she would like to reschedule it for me.
GROUP INTERVIEW!!! But hello that's not what I was told the previous day. I thought I was meeting her and the busy State director.

Anyhow, my instincts told me to drop the whole thing. I did not call her back and hope she doesn't call back either.

I went on the internet and luckily came to this site.
I am so glad that i did not invest any more of my time and energy into this systematic scam.

What amazes me is how the experiences of so many people are similar. I guess the company will soon need to get more creative about fooling people. I am sure they would have tried to make me an agent and sell me the dollar dreams - but hello i don't even have authorization to work here. Sure enough they would not sponsor my visa to make me an agent. So why are they wasting my time!

I wish I could go back and yell out to all those poor unsuspecting people who had come there for their 2nd and 3rd round interviews to run as far as they can from this company. The bad experiences of so many people can't all be co-incidences. I wonder why responsible companies like monster.com continue to have such employers on their list.

I guess the hundreds of AIL job posting are too much revenue to pass by. By the way, one more funny thing was that the lady who interviewed me, her business card did not even have her job title! This was my first experience with Corporate America. And it sure sucked!!
