I drove over 2 hr for an "interview" that was nothing more than a recruitment drive for an MLM company who is looking for independent 1099 contractors to eliminate any overhead in selling their mediocre and over-priced insurance product to a demographic that is not as trusting (gullible) as it used to be despite their claims to the contrary. The "recruiter" who called me assured me there was "absolutely no selling" when I asked directly and that their product was not insurance (cannot get any more blatant than that).
When I asked the motivational speaker why they are recruiting people with no sales background he used familiar aggressive tactics to convince me they do not recruit sales people because they tend to be dishonest and pushy. It was hard to swallow in light of the fact that I had been lied to already and now they were waving aside all my objections in true hard sell fashion.
I have been unemployed almost a year so the half tank of gas invested is crippling. I wish I would have known to add the word "scam" in my google search for the company so I would have found out first, but I know now!!!

Hey OP,
My name is Kelly. I work for American Income at one of the Minnesota branches and I am so sorry you were mislead by that. I was doing some research about consumer satisfaction with our company as far as our policy holders go and I happened to stumble upon your post on here. I am one of our hiring managers at the office that I work for and found it kind of upsetting to see this on here. You are right that you shouldn't have been lied to. Obviously we are a insurance company and we do sell life insurance. There is no getting around that. When we hire people, we hire people with a broad range of varieties in their work history pertaining to insurance and customer service and tend to favor them instead of people with a high pressure sales backgrounds. The reason I say this is because we work with a lot of different groups like unions, credit unions and associations that have expressed interest in our benefits and we can't have our agents going into these peoples homes pressuring them into buying something that they are uncomfortable with because it could cause a huge problem with our Public Relations. Therefore that is why we are more willing to hire someone with a lot of background in customer service over someone who has had years of high pressure sales experience. The truth of the matter is, is that there is a lot of room to advance with this company and the compensation is amazing if you are willing to work hard. There is a bunch of oppertunities with the company. You can choose to be a career agent, or you can move up into management and essentially build up your own team. I guess I just really wanted to let you know that a majority of American Income Life's offices are not run like that, and I am sorry you had a bad experience and were lied to.
Sincerely,
Kelly
