Do Not use AOL for a trial! Once they have your credit card they will bill at will. I canclled 30 days into a 90 trial and received a charge on my Amex that AOL will not credit.

took several calls to Billing on AOL to convince them to refund the money

My 68 year old mother had the same problem. She loaded the free two month software on her computer, but after entering all the billing information, she couldn't get the program to run again. She erased the AOL program from her computer and called the number that came with the software she received and cancelled - this was only two days after she started.

Two months later, AOL hit her bank account. She called the number again and they said they had no record of her request, so they wouldn't refund the money they took. Then they told her that, in order to cancel now, she would have to go on to her AOL program and cancel it from there. She reminded them that she no longer had the program and that she had removed it from her program because it wouldn't work. The AOL rep then told her to go to some of the local stores in her area until she can find an AOL disk, load the program onto her computer, and then cancel it! When she said AGAIN that the program wouldn't work on her computer, they said that they would cancel her account, but still would not refund her the fee taken from her account.

She told me and it took several calls to Billing on AOL to convince them to refund the money. I made a point to them that they can check and see when it was last used and see that she wasn't using the account. And, besides, did they really want to defend the AOL rep telling an elderly woman to go trolling through the city for another AOL disk? She received her refund several weeks later.
