Apex Financial Services ,Scam artist targeting elderly Sydney, Nova Scotia Canada

My own mother, 94 and senescent, received a similar letter from "Apex" today. Same deal, phony check for $4500 - very authentic looking - and instructions from "Oscar Willis" at 778-895-3422.  I have reported it at the RCMP site. I doubt they can do much, this throw-away phone will be gone within a week, but doing nothing is worse than doing something.

On occasion, these scumsuckers slip up and get caught. Keep the heat on them, and protect your loved ones.

My mother received 2 of these "winning" letters also.  Her letters were supposedly from 2 different companies (one was Apex Financial, the other was P & S Services).  I noticed many similarities between the letters.  I don't think they're coming from the companies listed on the letters at all.  I think the scammer is just simply taking real company names and making up their own letterhead, which is very easy to do with any word processor software.  They are printing up bogus checks but using legitimate names.  The companies listed on the checks were suspect so I looked them up on the internet and I can't imagine why a company that manufactures laminate flooring and another that manufactures compressors would have much to do with a lottery payout.  What I also noticed was that both envelopes had no return address, which most "real" companies do and although these companies were hundreds of miles apart, they had the same brand of envelope and same stamp and both mailed from Canada, even though one of them was a US company.  For more info on this particular scam I found USA Mega's website had examples imaged of the letters and the authentic looking checks that is part of this scam.  (((Redacted)))
