I was suddenly contacted by a debt collection company for a debt that I supposedly owe.   The name of the company that contacted me is "Arcadia Recovery Bureau."   The first person who left a message demanded I call back because I owe money to someone or some company.   I received anothe call from an automated robot with a recording, indicating I had to call back.    When I called back to spoke with someone who refused to give his name, and was extremely rude telling me to "stop yelling" (I was not yelling, although I wanted to based on his attitude).   Then he asked for my address and birth year.    I refused to provide it, asking him to give me the name of the company to whom I owe this supposed debt.   He refused, and refused to give him name.   In other words, he was phone phishing.

I informed him I was a victim of identity theft three times in two years from calls just like this one, and he still refused to give any information about who I owed the money to OR his own name.   And he was incredibly rude.

I called Arcadia Recovery Bureau's main number in California.   I spoke with another agent who refused to comply with my simple question.   He transferred me to 1(866) 585-1564 again, or at leats that is the number he told me he was transfering me to.  This time I spoke with someone named Thomas Pendergraft.   He was even ruder than the first person.   He demanded my full name, address and FULL DATE OF BIRTH>   I again refused, and explained about the identity theft situation.   So I asked to please just tell me the NAME of the company I owed the money to.   He said for security purposes, he refuesd to provide it.   But meanwhile he is demanding ALL of this personal information from me without simply giving me a name??

Suppose I owe $100 to Dr. Adam Smith.   All he has to do is say, "You owe $100 to Dr. Adam Smith."   Then, I would provide my information.   But with no reference, how am I supposed to know if this is a real call or a scam?

It makes no sense.   What this company is doing is a SCAM OPERATION.   There is no reason why a stranger should be allowed to call someone's home and collect their information and at the same time refuse to tell you who he is.

I am blocking their number.   If they read this, let them tell me to whom I owe this money.   Then I'll know they are real.   I say it is a MAJOR PHONE PHISHING SCAM to get enough identifying information to steal your identity.

For the record, Mr. Thomas Pendergraft is a rude, despicable person.   So far, I have spoke with three agents at Arcadia Recover Systems.   All rude, and all demanding personal information without providing anything else.   I hope RipOff Report investigates them, because this is unacceptable.

Laws

Hello,  I know in this day and age identity theft is becoming more and more common and people are being scammed. I can assure you Arcadia Recovery Bureau is NOT a scam. They are a legitimate bad debt collector who needs to follow strict Federal Privacy laws and are HIPAA regulated. They need to be sure they are speaking with the correct person before they can tell you why and for whom they are calling for.

That is the reason they needed to verify you were the person they are attempting to contact. But I do see your point. You could have asked if there was another way they could verify. As far as the employees being rude, they are bad debt collectors afterall and the company itself is a joke to work for. That is why I was employed for just five months there.  i hope by now you found a solution.
