I am 76 years old & I think I got my first taste of being burned. Once by a person I know, then worse by my own Bank. Someone I know told me that their mom gave them a personal check for money she had owed her. When she finally got it, the Bank her mom deals with was closed.

She asked me if I could put it in my Bank & then my Bank would cash it and put it in my account. I thought was ok. Well, the next day my grandson did the same thing to me. I still can't believe that friends & especially your own family would do this to a person. One check was for $ 250.00 & the other was $200.00..

On day three I get a call from the girls mother & she's telling me how her daughter stole some of her personal checks. I informed her that I helped them out by depositing the checks through my ATM.

The very next morning my daughter took me to my bank & we explained what had happened. I found out the girl's mother closed out her account the day before when my bank contacted them. I went to the mothers bank with her to find out they absolutely WILL NOT RECOVER MY MONEY. So, my daughter took me to the Police Dept. and I made a report out on the two of them.

I took the report to my Bank and the Asst. Manager informed me that their Fraud dept. also stated " THEY WILL NOT EAT THE LOSS." Well, what am I to do now? I didn't know they were stolen. So why should I loose out? My Bank said we have plenty of funds to recover things like this but, mine would not be.

I asked to make a withdrawal from my account & I was informed my Bank froze my account & I couldn't touch my own money. I had enough in my account that the 2 checks were covered. So, why am I not allowed to get my own money now? Begging for answers to help me out. I really need my money. Thank You All

From the banks standpoint the 2 people who wrote you those checks were the ones that stole from you

AUTHOR: Aaron - (U.S.A.)

Just to help you better understand this situation, the 2 people who wrote you those checks were the ones that stole from you, not the bank. You gave them cash out of your checking account in exchange for checks that still have to be collected on, its very unfortunate that people do this kind of thing to the elderly but thats our society. As far as why you couldn't access your funds, you had 2 checks deposited that were not paid on by the other bank, so to protect your funds they froze your account to prevent any more fraud on the account.
