These disreputable breeders are knowingly selling sick kittens! I bought 2 Singapuras but Devon Rex are also bred. My male died at 7 months of FIP and the female may get it as well. Both kittens came with incurable, untreatable respiratory viruses, the female 1 type and the male 3. I am heartbroken and so angry that these people are knowingly selling sick animals and for outrageous prices. I am in my 60's and this was my last chance to have kittens. I now have to also have my house and one of my friend where my surviving kitten is staying be treated for FIP. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW!

Slander and Preventing others from the love of a Devon

AUTHOR: Adrienne - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 07, 2015

I lost my Devon last night. He was a member of my family and I am devastated. That may be why I chose to finally weigh in on this subject. I also have a second female Devon that I am currently cuddling and I am thankful for her. She is helping me through this unbelievably hard time. I almost didn't get her based on the reports I read from people trying to convince people that these cats are "all" sick and dying. I almost didn't get her even thought I had gotten Megos, the baby I just lost, and had visited her home several times, and had seen with my own eyes how unbelievably well these kittens were taken care of and loved. I knew the truth and yet I still almost didn't get her, because the power of the written word is huge when it is made to threaten the health of your current babies. Again, I KNEW the truth, I KNEW that the accusations were false, and I still almost listened out of fear. Thank God I spoke with Elizabeth and decided to get her. I also read the rest of the reports and you all ultimately helped me decide. Had your complaints been valid, you wouldn't have needed to add to exaggerate and outright lie. So you also helped me decide.

Now after a freak accident I am left with only my girl, but she gives me comfort when nothing else can. So at last I felt I should speak up. I am aware you all will paint me as either Elizabeth herself or a friend, so please feel free. I am not even in the same state, so research away, but it had better be accurate. I have been to Elizabeth's home on multiple occasions, and NEVER with a pre-scheduled appointment. I have a friend in Raleigh and we often go play with the kittens when we are bored. She even let us bottle feed one so it would allow us to bond. These kittens are her babies. She talks to me on the phone when I have a question and always answers. I have the brother of one of the kittens you all claim was horribly sick and dying, actually I wanted that kitten a week before you got him because he was so playful! So maybe he got sick later and maybe it was heartbreaking, but the week prior that kitten was as playful and happy as you can get. Animals, like people, get sick and die. It is awful and heartbreaking but it is reality. Maybe instead of making wild accusations that are designed to ruin a reputation, you should channel that sadness into something more productive. Because if I had listened, my heart would be more broken because I wouldn't have my Adi to help me through this time.

For the record, I received a condolence call from Elizabeth even though she is driving to NJ to deliver a cat (Which is funny since apparently they hire criminals to transport these kittens illegally according to one report). Maybe you aren't a mean girls club trying to get others to join your crusade to destroy another human, but I am struggling understanding your reason and the amount of free time you have to dedicate to this "cause". What you are actually doing is depriving others from getting a pet that will love them unconditionally and bring joy to their lives. You are taking one incident and people are walking away (based on your untruths) from getting the best kitten they could ever imagine. I can't imagine not having mine. Even after my loss he was by far the prettiest, happiest, funniest pet I have ever had. I will always have a hole in my heart but it was so worth it to be his mom. To those of you reading this, please don't miss out on a chance to own the most amazing Devon Rex Breed I have ever encountered based on the slanderous words of a few people with too much time on their hands. These kittens are hand raised to love and bond with their forever families. This is Elizabeth's mission field. More importantly, these are literally the best pets you could ever own. Please pray for me as I deal with my loss. Loss is a part of loving, and is never easy. I will hope to channel it in a positive way. I can't promise your kitten won't get sick. There are no guarantees, just like no one can promise you will give birth to a healthy baby. You just take your vitamins, minimize risk, do the right things and hope for the best. I can promise Elizabeth does her best to minimize the risk. The kittens homes are clean. You can't even smell litter boxes (a trick I have yet to learn) She LOVES these babies and in return they will love their forever families. They changed my life and my views on pets.

Please don't allow the bitter lies of a few ruin your chance at having such an incredible member join your family. Jealousy is inherent to human nature, I am only assuming that is the driving factor behind these malicious attacks. What is being portrayed as a plight to help others, is in fact depriving so many of the perfect pet.

I had a good experience

I'm very sorry for your loss. I don't think it's fair or accurate for you to say that all of Karen's kittens are sick and will die. I bought my gorgeous Devon Rex from Karen in 2012, Archie is in perfect health and is a very happy and playful cat. I referred a friend to Karen shortly after adopting Archie and she adopted two Devons herself (one is Archie's little brother- same parents, different litter), they are both healthy and happy as well. Karen was very responsive and professional. When I went to pick Archie up she showed me around. Her home was clean and the area where she keeps the kittens looked very well kept. Did you try contacting Karen and asking her to replace your kitten? From what I have read in other people's comments, she appears to be willing to do that.

There are two women in total slandering elizabeth bolen. It appears to be many, only because they've done it multiple times on multiple sites. I have purchased a kitten from this breeder. You must state facts when you are accusing someone of a wrong doing. I have been in the cattery, purchased a kitten and have seen the complete opposite of what you have claimed of her. This was a terrible loss and i understand feeling upset but please remember that even when we are hurt, we cannot fabricate information to destroy someone's character. She has a contract and follows through on her contract.

One of my Devon kittens purchased in Sept died yesterday from fip. Another kitten buyer who bought her kitten at the same time contacted me to let me know her kitten died from fip within ten days not to mention that both of my kittens had Herpes worse than my vet had ever seen. Extremely undernourished and sick.

Devons from Beautymus

AUTHOR: M. Paul - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, January 01, 2014

I came across this report and just wanted to add that I purchased two devons from Beautymus -- one in July 2011 and another in January 2012 -- and both are healthy and happy cats with no medical issues. Karen and Elizabeth were professional and helpful throughout the process. I am so sorry to hear about the situation with the Singapuras, but I think it's important to note that some people have had very good experiences with this breeder.

Great Singapura Kittens

AUTHOR: Holly - ()

POSTED: Sunday, December 15, 2013

I have two incredibly great Singapura cats that I have purchased from Beautymus Cattery. I have a female who was born August 2011, and a male born May 2013.  They are the best cats I've ever owned, and have absolutely no health problems. Karen and Elizabeth's communications with me have been stellar, and I would recommend them to anyone who would like to own this particularly friendly, and playful breed of cat.

I had a very different experience...

AUTHOR: Singapura Lover - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, October 29, 2013

I came across the above report after I also lost a Singapura kitten purchased from Karen Hill.  I hadn't known much about this rare breed of cat when I first got them, but have learned a lot in the past few months.

In May 2013, I purchased two Singapura kittens from Karen Hill (Beautymus Cattery) and had a very different experience as that described above.  I also had the unfortunate experience of one kitten dying shortly after arrival - only 18 days after I got her.  Although Velcro was very tiny (weighed only 22 ounces at 17 weeks), she appeared healthy - was playful and eating with no problems.  I had my vet check her out and she got a clean bill of health.  Several weeks after she arrived, Velcro simply stopped eating, and despite emergency treatment, died 3 days later.  Because of my concerns about FIP, I had a complete necropsy with histopathology done on her.  The cause of death proved to be bacterial meningitis and encephalitis - something that is rare, likely precipitated by an undeveloped immune system, and apparently, is completely unpredictable.  There was no indication whatsoever of corona virus, PKD, or FIP.  During that time, I also extensively discussed the inbreeding and consequent health problems of Singapura cats with researchers at the University of California Davis - who are conducting genetic studies of Singapuras.  I had stayed in close communication with Karen Hill and Elizabeth Bolen at the cattery during those difficult days.

Karen Hill was as responsive, knowledgable, and supportive as I could have hoped for.  She has now replaced Velcro with another Singapura kitten (including paying transport costs to California) and Daphne at present is healthy, playful, eating heartily and growing like a weed.  She also reimbursed me for medical expenses I'd incurred.  The brother of the kitten who died is nearly 9 months old now.  Goliath is healthy, happy, and has bonded with his new "sister."

From my perspective, in this difficult situation, Karen Hill acted with complete integrity and professionalism.  To me, she seems very knowledgable and sincerely caring about this amazing breed of cat - which has known health problems resulting from severe inbreeding.  I have lost my heart to this amazing breed and my heart aches for those who have also lost a Singapura kitten, but I was happy to discover a breeder who seems to truly care about the cats she breeds and sells.
