I am now a FORMER BestBuy customer because they charged me a 29.00 late fee because my online payment posted 1 day after the due date because they dont accept payments on the weekends.
I made the online payment on Thursday, June 5th 2008 and my due date was June 8th. Because the 8th was a Sunday, the payment didn't post til Monday the 9th.
The first customer service rep I spoke to told me they would not remove the late fee because I had a previous charge removed a year ago.
I pay all my bills online and have never had this happen. Alll the other bills I pay are posted the same day or the next day.
I wonder how many other customers are being ripped off by BestBuy's scumbag tactics

No one should be allowed to make payments due on a date they won't accept them. If these companies have no limits, they will just hold the payment until they are late every time.
The more you pay your bills, the more annoying they will get. (They being those you owe money to.)
Also, companies lie about the time for posting a payment. They can post in the same day (occasionally I have seen it). They just don't usually.
Bank electronic processing systems don't shut down on weekends. If you shut the computers down, every two-bit scam artist could collect money every holiday. Only the personnel are not there.

Ok, first of all the Best Buy (just like most other store credit cards) is managed by an outside bank (in this case HSBC). Best Buy can't do squat about any issues that arise with your card.
Second, you need to stop looking for someone to blame for you waiting until the last second to pay your bills. You were not ripped off, you paid late. Stop spending money you don't have and pay off your bills right away.

My wife and I have credit cards, including a best buy card. None of our dates have ever changed, unless we called and requested a date change which credit cards let you do apparently. If, what you are saying is true, and the date changed, then maybe you did it and forgot? I'm thinking the date didn't change and was always on the date it is. YOU, is what is wrong with America, "Nothing is my fault" attitude needs to stop, and stop soon.

Although this isn't really unique to BestBuy, it is a practice which shouldn't be accepted by consumers.
Most credit companies list the due date not as the dat you paid by, but the dat they processed the payment by. This means legally they can claim any number of reasons the payment wasn't received, when it was still their fault. Most companies are willing to reverse late charges if you can provide any proof that payment was sent on or before the "due" date.

No matter how you or what you say its your fault for not paying on time. Its your responsibility for knowing when your bill is due and its your responsibility to make sure its pain on time.
The due date is clearly stated on the bill and when you login to your account. This is hardly a rip-off and more of someone making a mistake and wants to blame someone else for their own mistake.

When you are late with a payment, you may go into what's called a Default Rate. That means on your next statement your interest rate may be 29% or more! Also if you bought something with no interest or payment, then that's out the window as well. My advice is get control of your bills, and stay out of Best Buy getting toys you can't afford! Pay cash and get out of debt! All Credit Card Company's are out to get you in debt and keep you there and catch you in their little traps.

I am sorry, but you really need to read a website and all of the fine print before doing online banking. I know that Best Buy credit cards and other companys put up a table saying if you make a online payment this day it will clear this day. Now if you did not read that and not follow it you are a dumb customer. :) I think it is funny how people think that if they dont read things, they dont have to worry about stuff. Well you do.

First off, I know HSBC is the merchant account for BestBuy, but that doesn't matter.
YOU are the MORON for not being able to read my original post or rebuttal and "comprehend" it...(let me know if these words are to big, I can dumb it down for you)
I made the payment on the 5th and the due date "used" to be the 10th...thats 5 days before it was due. The due date changed to the 8th.
My beef is that they were unwilling to take the 29.00 fee off as a courtesy because I am a good customer and always pay my bills on time.

You might be the dumbest consumer I have every met. You are the primary example of the stupid customer we in retail make fun of. First of all, the Best Buy credit card it totally run through HSBC. If you think that 17 year old customer service person that you probably yelled at has anything to do with bank policies, you are a moron. Second, you are the the idiot who waited until one business day before the bill was due to pay it. Before you complain about how long it takes to a bank to post a payment, you should probably read the crap about your account. Oh...and I'm pretty sure on best buy's online bill paying system, it has a complete schedule of payment date vs. post date. Bottom line, your a moron who messed up. You are a typical example of a customer who messed up and wants to put the blame on someone else.

And you think it's their fault?
Just because other creditors have setup online/electronic transfers with the bill pay company (most banks outsource) doesn't mean ALL of them do. It's your responsibility to pay the bill on time.
I pay all of my bills online now, and I always set them up to arrive at least one week before the real due date until I now how the payments are going out. My bank will cut a check if they don't accept electronic payments, and then the money doesn't leave my account until it's been paid, and the same with the electronic ones.

If you knew that the due date fell on a weekend, then why did you literally wait until the last second to make your payment? Perhaps if you had made an effort to get your payment in by that Friday, you could have avoided a late fee.
It is common knowledge that banks are closed on the weekend. It is not Best Buy's fault that your last-minute payment did not reach them by the cut-off date.
