We figured 2 days was more than enough of a time period to cancel for a full refund. Well, after a few days of our return I got the credit card bill. Called up Hotels.com who told us they normally do not have any say in the rules. I called up the owner of the B&W at Carmel By The Sea who gave me a lecture that it wasn't him who is responsible and that Hotels.com does this to everyone who cancels ahead of time. He went on to blame Hotels.com for everything.

I followed thru with my credit card company who contacted him and he changes his tune and says the cancellation period is 4 days which is outrageous and fradulent. Tha's when it dawned on me that this scum of the planet had the nerve to lay the blame on someone else when he himself was behind it. Tried to lodge a complaint with B&W in Phoenix which went nowhere.

This is what B&W always does. They never blame their franchises and did not bother repsonding. No other hotel has ever scammed me to the extent B&W had done. In the future B&W will never be on my radar screen. They are are rodent infested, dirty facilities and folks should know they flout all kinds of rules for every penny.

Cancellation Policy

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 10, 2021

Sorry but you are incorrect. It doesn't matter what you "figure", it matters what the policy is. It is YOUR responsibility to understand that Cancellation Policy BEFORE you book your hotel. Contrary to your comment, a 4-Day Cancellation policy is not fraud, in fact, it is actually common and on the low side in some areas and certain time periods. I've booked rooms with cancellation policies with everything from no cancellation, cancel up to 6 PM the day of arrival all the way out to a 14-day policy. But the difference is that unlike you, I actually review the policy BEFORE I book.

As for 3rd party sites, Hotels.com was right they have zero say in the hotel policy. The manager is also correct that it is not their fault if Hotels.com told you something different.  If you have proof that Hotels.com told you something different where you were entitled to a refund, then your issue is with them.  But this is why I never book through a 3rd party site and always book directly with the hotel. The savings are often not worth the hassle if you run into issues.  Very often(but not always) if you call the hotel directly and tell them you saw a lower rate they often will honor that rate.
