I was contacted by Anna with Bob Watson Chevy in Harvey Illinois. She told me I had been PREAPPROVED for a car loan. I asked how much the loan was for and she told me she didn't have that information in front of her. (That should have sent up a red flag but I didn't think a lot of it).

I made an appointment and changed my schedule. I drove 40 minutes and arrived at the appointed time. I was taken to a "sales associate" named Angie. She asked fo my I.D. and I explained that I should be in the system because Anna had taken all that information. She said dhe just needed to verify my ID. She then told me that she was going to take my paperwork to the finance department. I asked her what happened to being preapproved. She said I was but they needed to review the application. After several minutes, she came back and told me that I would need a co-signer. I again asked what about being preapproved. She said that they have to send it several lenders to see which one wanted to loan the money.

I explained to her that that was not preapproved. I again told her that I would not ask anyone to co-sign and she gave me my paperwork back and shuffled me out the door.

This is not only a deceptive trade practice but also false advertising. I see from all the other reports here that I am not the only person Bob Watson Chevy has lied to. It seems to be a standard practice with them in an attempt to get customers in the building.

Below is a copy of the email sent from Anna with Bob Watson Chevy. I also have the message on my cell phone that she left telling me I was preapproved.

Dear Carl,

CONGRATULATIONS! YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN ACCEPTED!

When you get here, let us know what kind of payment you want, type of vehichle, and we will give you a list to make car buying made easy! All trade in are accepted regardless of condition! Oh, I almost forgot to mention, since this is such a huge program that is being practiced in 48 states, we have access to about 40 different lenders so that we can find you the best interest rates and lowest payments. That means we are willing to work with any type of credit. We look forward to meeting all of your financing needs! See you soon!!

-Phone Bill and/or Utility (Doesn't matter whose name its in)
