I have lived at the Huntington Club Apartments Building A for 2 years now. The first year was great. I had a great sense that my children would be safe and my time here would be very comfortable. The residence were well established, there were plenty of children in the complex and well maintained.

Around 9 months ago I was told new office personal had been hired and new strict rules would be in place. Thats when it appeared everything that was good went wrong. Good tenants that had been living here moved due to mistreatment, I personally knew a few people who were great, hardworking and quiet tenants.

When they asked about the dishwasher that was promised to be installed when they moved in, they were told that one will be installed "when you move out"! After all the good tentants moved then a string of wild tentants moved in.

Through the course of 3 months I've encountered more than a few situations where tentants have have knock down, drag out fights in the courtyard at midnight on a weekday, tentants slamming doors because of a altercation they were in and excessive partying during the weekdays and weekends. Letters on the doors stating the residence children were not allowed to play or do certain things in the courtyard such as roller blading, riding bikes and skateboarding.

I understand those issues but my son was the only one doing the roller blading and skateboarding. He is not a skateborader so he barely moved on his much less cause any disturbance or problem. A new policy of pool monitoring came in place. A pool monitor was hired and sign in and out was required. This is a great idea considering there are a few people who would get unruley because no supervision was present. There is also a building B with a pool as well. The managment hired two females to supervise the pools, not at the same time. The pool monitor will alternate pools if people are in a certain pool, the monitor goes to that one.

I dont see the point of this "policy". Hiring two pool monitors but only assign one to two pools? There has also been an instance where someone had thrown a beer bottle in the pool causing the pool to be closed for nearly two weeks so they could figure out how to clean the broken glass. One of the pool supervisors has recently become friendly with a few of the unruly tentants and when it is her shift, she is barely at the pool, of course when the office has closed. She is hanging out at her new friends apartments, walking the courtyard or just hanging out in front of her friends apartment regardless if there are tentants in the pool or not! The other pool monitor actually does her job but I havent seen her in quite some time so maybe she got sick of the shennanigans and quit.

One of the maintenence personel has also gotten sick of the off the wall new policies and resigned and moved. This man had been with this building for over 10 years. When complaints are made, no one at the office contacts you to alert you that they have attempted to take care of the matter.

A string of theft has also started recently. I blame the new tenants who obviously have not been checked out. This apartment is starting to resemble a prison, strict rules that are enforced, yet the roudiness has gone haywire! When I heard there was new office personel I thought ok, we will have a tight runned ship at this complex, but NOOOOOO, it appears that the things the office should be tight about they are seriously laxed on, and the minor things are being enforced with an iron fist!

I will admit the old office personel were lenient with things, but things got done, we didnt have the wild tentant problem we have now and they appeared to care about the tentants and make sure a problem or issue was addressed. Maybe Brookline doesnt like their apartment complexes to run smoothly with caring employees who make sure tenants feel secure and the complex running smoothly.

I'm sure there will be more things that I will think of regarding the mess that has been created of Huntington Club Apartment Homes and I'm sure there will be more incidents to speak of. Its a shame to think that other tentants along with myself cannot wait unitl our lease is up so that we can get out of this apartment complex that is turning for the worse.

Brookline needs to stop sitting at their corporate desks counting their money and actually make sure the people running their buildings are doing the job they are supposed to or making sure to assess the situation when a complaint is directed to Brookline directly.

I've noticed a decline in apartment rentals the past few months as well. I counted 11 apartments in building A alone that are vacant. That type of vacancy is a clue that things are going bad and now they are getting desperate and leasing to whoever comes through the door, yet I am being charged $140 more than the average apartment rent for this location. I could rent/lease a house for the amount I pay or go to a better neighborhood and pay the same or slightly lower rent rate with the tranquility of knowing my children will be safe and that the apartment isnt in a serious deteriation state.

but where there is life, there is hope. Asking costs nothing.

You write that you are pretty much living paycheck to paycheck. "The astronomical rent rates are absurd for this building and I wonder how most of these people afford it."

I bet that they are also pretty much living paycheck to paycheck.

Thanks Thomas! No I am not moving until my lease is up or at least I will try to continue to live here until my lease is up. Buying isnt an option for me. When I moved in to these apartments I was going through a divorce and I got quite a few credit cards to just put food in the fridge and gas in my car. Now they are all in charge off status and I wouldnt get approved for a loan on a candy bar! I'm pretty much living paycheck to paycheck. The astranomical rent rates is obsurde for this building and I wonder how most of these people afford it.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

So you are going to move? Sounds like a good idea, but....

Maybe you should take the time remaining on your lease to investigate other options. If you rent somewhere else, you cannot garantee that another management change will not recreate the problems you have now. Home ownership gives you control over your living situation. Renting gives you no control over your living situation, renting only gives you the right to pay rent.

Habitat for Humanity volunteers refurb rundown houses for 'disadvantaged' families who can then buy those houses from Habitat for Humanity at a VERY reasonable price. The houses are usually located in safe, moderate (not slum) neighborhoods. Contact Habitat for Humanity. Also contact similar volunteer organizations.
