I have a question about service contracts puchased through car dealerships.
AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, September 22, 2003
I bought a service contract, extended warrantee, and GAP FOR GAP listed on the contract. I have paid for oil changes in their service department. Is the purpose of a service contract to pay for oil changes upfront for a pre-set price. All the items above on the contract were $500.00 each. What is the point in buying a service contract when I have to pay for service anyway? Are the oil changes supposed to be included in the service contract? It appears I paid $500.00 only to have it take up space on a contract. When I plan to shop for another car I'll avoid financing at a dealership because of the risk of deceptive and unfair practices. If anyone has information on service contracts I would appreciate any information on the subject.

They are at it again....luring new victims with false advertising like the one they used to fleece me with.

The ad goes like this used cars for only $19 and nothing else is mentioned except it is a liquidation sale. Except when a new victim, thinking the ad is legitimate goes there with $19 the person is surrounded by salesman and finance manager asking for large down payment.
They take down payment and refuse to refund his money BEFORE a contract is even written up. Their excuse is their bank is closed or they have computer problems.
What floors me is I'm paying new car price for a used car I had to return at least twice for repairs.
The good thing is Navy Federal refinanced my Ford for 6.9% so Ford Credit will not make a fortune out of my misfortune caused by their bloodsucking dealers.
As for Mr. Pay car dealer with cash....ARE YOU CRAZY? THEY RIPPED ME OFF WITH A CREDIT CARD. IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I CAME THERE WITH CASH. THEY WOULD TAKE IT AND KEEP IT!
When I go there to have my truck serviced the dealer who ripped me off taunts me and laughs at me when he sees me. Only thing I want is them to go through the same frustration I went through. I noticed when I go there or drive by to another destination, they are usually not busy.
The locals must know about their tactics. Their primary prey must be the military.
THE WORST DEALERS ARE NEAR MILITARY BASES. Their must be something wrong with Ford vehicles for their dealers to use deceptive and unfair practices.
Next time I go to buy a auto, I'll finance through my credit union to remove one opportunity to use deception.

Brandon what I wrote was a responce thinking that the car buyer "Victim" did not buy the car. In other words walked away.
I have known car dealers to sell a car buyer a car, take the buyer's trade-in and The buyer thinks OK I got what I wanted.
Mean while the dealer sells the buyers trade-in. During this same time the dealer has not found a bank to pick up the paper.
A few days go by and the dealer's F&I guy tells the salesman to call the buyer and ask when can he come down to the dealership and sign a few extra documents for "THE BANK"?
The car buyer goes to the dealership, and WHA LA they have a new contract for the buyer to sign that has a much higher interest rate on it.
So let's say car buyer says no WAY. Car dealer says " well leave the new car here" and call a TAXI!
Car buyer says WHERE IS MY TRADE?
Should the dealer go find the car?
should the car dealer give the car buyer ACV?
"actual cash value" for the trade-in that is GONE?
Or
should the dealer let the new buyer keep the new car and stay in the VERY FIRST CONTRACT and the dealer buy down the rate with the dealer's money?
I am sure that you and I would agree that their should be a cooling off perion for car buyers in EVERY state. But we both know that car dealers like to hold car buyer's feet to the fire.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Customer service is JOB DUNG at Brunswick Ford.

I'm actually a male, but gender does not matter. The issue is not interest to the unprofessional person from Des Moines, Iowa. It is the deceptive and unfair tactics the dealers used on me.
They did not show terms of contract before down payment. When I did not like the terms I asked for my money back so I could go to Wiscasset Ford and finance a 2002 neww model for 6 K less than the 2000 model with same features.
I was worked over by more than on dealer there. I argued for over an hour to have my down payment refunded BEFORE SIGNING A CONTRACT. I was reduced to begging for MY money back.
The ONLY reason I signed the contract was to avoid losing $2200.00 which is almost one month's worth of E-5 military pay.
I SURRENDERED to their agreement because all the dealers there were at least 250 lb. and feared myself and my wife being injured in a physical confontation. Good news I refinanced with Navy Federal and saved 10 K in interest.
I will never finance at a dealership again due to my experience with dishonest dealers. I asked for and demanded for my down payment back BEFORE signing the contract and taking possesion of the truck.
I call what happened to me strong arm robbery. They ONLY reason scum like most car dealers never cool their heels in jail is because they can bribe everyone and can afford top notch attorneys.
As for Mr Des Moines keep your foot out of your mouth when you do not know the situation. I hope you get victimized and see how it feels.

Why Should they?

Hey Great Thorn, Why should C get his/her down payment back? They agreed to purchase the vehicle at a certain price, and even SIGNED a LEGAL BINDING contract stating their intentions to do so. The dealership is not obligated to give them their down payment back. After they drive the vehicle off the lot they have legally taken delivery of the vehicle and it is now theirs. And no, I'm not a car salesperson, but I have sold cars before. Some of the stuff on here is very true about dealerships, however some of it, like this post, is just someone who is uneducated and wants their money back for THEIR mistake. Oh, and if they're paying almost $12K in interest on a $20K truck they have a high interest rate, so they should re-finance the truck in about 18 months, assuming they are not burried in it!

IF YOU WOULD BOTHER TO READ YOUR CONTRACT YOU WOULD SEE THAT THEY CHARGE YOU FOR BORROWING THE MONEY. THE BANK DOES NOT LOAN MONEY FOR FREE. IF YOU MAKE THE MINIMUM PAYMENT EVERY MONTH ON A 71 MONTH CONTRACT YOU WILL PAY 31K FOR A 20K CAR. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND PAY CASH. IF NOT THEN GET EDUCATED ABOUT INTEREST CHARGES. IF YOU DON'T LIKE PAYING INTEREST WHY DON'T YOU WRITE TO AL GREENSPAN AND COMPLAIN. WE ALL PAY IT, SO WHY DON'T YOU GET EDUCATED BEFORE YOU RUN YOUR MOUTH ANYMORE.

Joe If I were you I woulf fax a copy of your Rip Off Report to your state banking commission office.

TDD: 207-624-8563
Fax: 207-624-8590

Then the next thing I would do is fax a copy to
Maine
State Offices
William Lund, Director
Office of Consumer Credit Regulation
35 State House Station
Augusta, ME 04333-0035
207-624-8527

TDD/TTY: 207-624-8563
Fax: 207-582-7699
Web site: www.mainecreditreg.org
The very next thing I would do is email a direct link to your Rip Off Report to the following people at ford.
This is a big list if email addresses at Ford Motor Corp that no Ford dealer would want you to have your hands on.
No car dealer wants you to inform a car maker as to how poorly you are being treated by the dealership.
Your Ford dealer will not like the fact that you have this contact info. Use it to your advantage.
