We were referred to Calypso Cay Villas by a friend who had booked a 7 night stay in the vacation villas through a time share get a way deal. He provided me with the contact information he used to book the deal, the price I was quoted was a bit higher (as I am not a current time share owner) approximately $698.00 plus 7% tax for 7 nights, come to find out cleaning, towel charges were all additional! It also came with the stipulation that my husband and I attend a 90 minute time-share presentation. I reviewed the pictures and amenities of the resort and everything looked very inviting to me. I am ashamed to admit that I did not research the resort before hand as we always have in the past (due to it being referred) I will never make that mistake again!!! I called 800-824-1533 (please note this number is listed on the website promoting the villas, the pictures on the website are for the villa) to book my stay and informed the agent that I was a referral, I did provide the name of the guest referring me along with the type of accommodations I was interested in. The booking process was anything but easy, I was on the phone for at least 45 minutes, as the agent kept placing me on hold for verification purposes?! At the completion of the phone call the agent took my credit card information to process immediately and stated I would receive a confirmation within 24 hours via email. Before hanging up I asked if there were any hidden costs or anything else I needed to be made aware of and I was told no, nothing else. To start this terrible experience....it took 6 days and over 10 phone calls to receive my confirmation (mind you that the money was deducted from my account immediately) every time I called I was told that they still needed to confirm the dates were available? You can imagine my surprise, as I was under the impression this was already confirmed when they requested payment from me!!!!! Once I finally received my confirmation I had noticed it stated my accommodations were in a Suite?? This did not sit well with me and I was very confused so I placed yet another phone call in to the resort and did in fact confirm they had placed us in a Suite, after speaking to supervisors and managers I finally had found help (so I thought) a Manager at the Suites by the name of Denise #274773 had stated that I can cancel my stay due to all of the confusion or upgrade at any point prior to check-in into the Villa for an additional $200.00, she also stated she would upgrade my room in the suites to a larger room if I choose to stay there and that I can contact her from that point forward with any concerns. I felt relieved and was hopeful things would work-out from that point forward. WRONG!!!! I called Denise prior to check in to upgrade the room to a villa and was told they had no availability and that I can check once again at check-in for openings this time she was very short with me. Upon arriving to the Suites Sunday (3/38/2010) we witnessed several couples at the front desk screaming and visibly very upset due to room issues and 4 hour time share presentations, not the way I was hoping to start my stay!!! When an agent finally helped us I asked again to upgrade and this time I was told there was availability if I wanted to pay an additional $149.00 per night (that's an addit $1043.00) because I did not change the reservations prior to check-in.....I TRIED and did exactly what the rep told me to do, and was told nothing was available, I explained the situation and asked for a manager and still they would do nothing... not to mention how rude the entire front desk staff was!!!! I was also informed that my tax would be $105.00 (way more than the 7% quoted) and if we required clean towels daily that would be a charge of $5.00 per day and cleaning service would be $15.00 per day...again, I stated that I had asked upfront if there would be additional charges and was told no...Denise (not sure if it is the same Denise, she wouldn't tell me her ID# and stated there were 2 Denises....should not have her job, absolutely no people skills and terrible customer service...so very rude) told me clean towels are not required it is optional?!? I don't know about the rest of their guests but a shower daily is a requirement!!!! I questioned the larger suite that I was promised by Denise and was told they only have once size room and they are all the same size!!!!! Once in our room we noticed the mattress on the pull-out was very dirty (blood or fluid stains) and springs were popping out, the springs on the frame were also broke! We tracked down the maintenance man James (he was terrific, they only employee there that was willing to help) who provided us with a newer mattress. I noticed ants and some other type of bug crawling around the bathroom again complained (I was told they would spray but continued to have bugs through our stay) the bath-tub was very dirty, my husband woke with tiny red bumps all over his legs, the furniture was old and room just felt and looked dirty. There were stains and markings on the walls and our mattress was so hard we both woke up with terrible back-aches to the point that when I would breath my chest hurt...my husband and I ran to Wal-Mart to purchase foam pads for the bed ($68.00) and took the receipt to the front desk insisting they do something for our inconveniences...but as expected they did nothing in fact they didn't seem to care almost as if they hear this all day long and have become numb to it. I was told by an employee to express my frustrations to the sales-rep during our time-share presentation as they may be able to offer some help. He promised to put us up in the Villa, but, only if we purchased from him...are you kidding me? Why in the world would I purchase anything from this company after the experience we have had in the first 36 hours?!?! Why in the hell would they put anyone up in the suites and hope to sell them on this fantastic vacation!?!? Our representative stated that they have had complaint after complaint about the Suites and even went as far as distancing themselves from the Suites stating that they have leased the property out only to find people are very unhappy with the way it is being run but unfortunately they still have 2 years left!!!! FYI~ the timeshare presentation was over 3 hours long not 90 minutes as you agree to. The only part of this vacation that was manageable was to pool and great weather...if it was not for that I would have left and taken the vacation as a complete loss!!! I was in tears, it was terrible!!! The breakfast was terrible, the guests were so rude and acted like cave men as if they hadn't eaten in months...one lady even sat down at my table and pulled it away from me before I stood up!!! What in the world! It is worth spending the money to eat away from the hotel. Come to find out that most of the guest paid nothing or very little to stay there due to the time-share offer they received, this would explain the behavior. These guests felt like they needed to fight for every little thing they wanted. The hotel was nothing more than a holding tank, they place the guests in these terrible conditions show them these beautiful, spacious villas and tell them that if they purchase they can spend the remainder of their trip over there. The villas also have their own separate continental breakfast area with eggs, sausage, a waffle maker, larger muffins and the employees are much friendlier and the guest were civilized! My daughter and her girlfriend went over there daily for breakfast, 13 years old girls couldn't even handle our breakfast area. The pool area was nice but the tiki bar was short staffed (1 employee) and they had to cook and bartend, we had to wait a minimum of 10 minutes to get a drink and depending on what bartender was working we were always charged something different (for the same drinks 1 beer and 1 blue Hawaiian) anywhere from $11.50-$12.83, tax and 15% gratuity is automatically calculated in, if you enjoy drinks by the poolside it best to purchase your own from the grocery store. The Internet service was down on and off and you could only access it from the lobby or pool area. They do have two computers but they are always in use. They have 2 washers and dryers but keep in mind you have 600 plus guests. If you need additional pillows, blankets etc. forget it, you are better off saving the aggravation and taking a drive to Wal-Mart. There is garbage left out in the hallways (one of the guests was so tired of seeing it sit there, they put in the elevator and sent it down to the lobby). I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and would NEVER stay in the suites again, my husband refers to it as hotel hell!!! It was a terrible experience and the front desk staff was rude and very unprofessional.
