I am quite concerned that CAMCO has been able to get away with calling people and harrassing them, and no government agency can stop them. What has happened here? There are laws to protect people, yet they keep operating a business. I am waiting for bankruptcy papers filed back in 1991 to prove that a debt they have been calling me about has been discharged. Once I received them, I will file a suit against them. But this should not be necessary.

Ok, maybe we owed the debt, and yes, we would all like to be morally proper and pay off our debts. But the law says that you do not have to in this case, so who is CAMCO to say otherwise? When did they become the "voice of the morally correct"?

I blame the politicians and regulators of these companies as much as I blame CAMCO. They need to be stopped, and the government must step in and protect the consumer. If they won't, then vote for someone else during the next election.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

I emailed the mayor

AUTHOR: Scott - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 08, 2003

about 6 months ago and he faxed back the reply a pretty much expected. I was told to file a complain with the illinois attorney general. I still have the letter in my rather large camco file folder. The problem is that as a former illinois resident I know rockford, also known as the murder capital of illinois, is a very poor city. As one camco employee put it 'even jobs at mcdonalds are scarce'. Also remember that camco received large tax breaks and cash from the state and federal government and even though both entities are now aware of camco's criminal activities they will look like idiots if they admit to funding them. Any normal state's attorney general will start investigating and cracking down on a company at around a dozen complaints. Camco had 215 illinois AG complaints a month ago and I have no doubt they have grown in number. It is all about the money and it is of my opinion and the opinion of many consumer protection attorneys that money is changing hands in the most illegal way possible. Continue to tape them with their illegal activities. Make your complaints to the illinois ag, your state's AG, and the BBB. If you have them on tape then sue them in small claims for $1000.

The Following is a press release On Camco From 2001

CAMCO TO OPEN NEW HEADQUARTERS IN DOWNTOWN ROCKFORD

Governor George H. Ryan, along with Rockford Mayor Doug Scott, today announced that Capital Acquisitions and Management Company (CAMCO) is establishing its new headquarters and training center in downtown Rockford, Illinois. The move to the former Conseco Building, 303 N. Main Street, is currently planned for early September. CAMCO's relocation and expansion could bring as many as 500 new jobs to downtown Rockford over the next three years.

"I'm pleased that the State of Illinois is able to assist CAMCO in this phase of the company's rapid growth," said Ryan. "My administration continues to focus not only on expanding businesses in the state, but ensuring that companies that have made their home in Illinois, remain in Illinois."

"The City of Rockford is excited to have a growing company such as CAMCO locate its corporate headquarters in downtown Rockford," said Mayor Doug Scott. "The jobs that CAMCO will bring to the area will further enhance our efforts to revitalize our downtown."

CAMCO is eligible for tax credits through the Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) program, and for worker training grants through the Industrial Training Program (ITP). The Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA) administers both programs. The City of Rockford has offered various incentives to assist CAMCO in relocating to and expanding in downtown Rockford, including $750,000 in Community Development Block Grant money for new job creation.

"The CAMCO project is yet another example of the importance of local and state cooperation in promoting economic development in order to provide job opportunities for our residents," said DCCA Director Pam McDonough. "These partnerships, combined with business incentives initiated by Governor Ryan and supported by local lawmakers like Senator Dave Syverson, are crucial to the continued growth and diversification of the economy both locally and statewide."

CAMCO was started in Genoa, Illinois in August of 1997 with just two employees and has grown to approximately 300 workers with sites in Illinois, Georgia and Florida. CAMCO is a major purchaser of non-performing debt portfolios and has acquired over $2 billion in non-performing receivables.

"We at CAMCO are truly excited about our expansion into Rockford and about our opportunities for growth in our new facility," said CAMCO Chairman George J. Othon. "We were looking for a city that provided us with a strong and talented workforce as well as a healthy downtown. The City of Rockford provides us with both of these benefits. The assistance of the State of Illinois, the City of Rockford, and the Rockford Area Council of 100 has been instrumental in making this project a reality."

"The relocation of CAMCO will mean a tremendous number of new, high-wage jobs for the City of Rockford," said Bob Levin, Executive Director of the Council of 100. "CAMCO is a strong company and will be a great anchor for downtown Rockford."

So now why do you suppose Nobody in Illinois is doing anything!
