I closed this account (credit card) over a year ago and it had a 0 balance. 1 year later I got a statement charging me an annual fee so I called to tell them I had closed the account a year ago and do not use it or even have a card anylonger. I also wrote them so they would have that for theyre records also. Ever month I get charged late fee'd penalties etc... it does not matter how often I call or write I am being ignored. Last time I called they told me the only way I can cancel the account is to send or fax my SS card, drivers lic....etc! I feel like I am in credit card hell....please help. Do I need a lawyer just to cancel a credit card???
